so last wednesday night i was coming home from a high school basketball game. the speed limit on the road was 45mph and it was a straight away. there werent any cars in front of me so i decided to gun it. i got up to 70 and i didnt want to go any faster. i approached my turn and thought i will get the next one and kept going. the road curves to the left so no matter what i had to slow down. i was still about 100 yds from the turn and saw a car parked on the side. i thought thats a wierd place to park so i let off the gas. as i got closer i realized it was a cop!:eyecrazy just before i passed him i saw a flash and i looked at my speed. i was doing 35 now. Luck is on my side though i have a german license plate on the front of my car and its not registered so they dont know who ownes that car based on the license plate. i have been checking the mail for the past 5 days and so far nothing. thank god. does anyone know how long it usually takes for one of those tickets to come in the mail?

Doesn't sound like he pulled over at all or got pulled over.

The mail tickets are for when you run a red at intersection with a camera.

I've also heard about people getting tickets for speeding on i5 and got caught by those helicopters overhead.

yah! i got one of those. they had a plane circling over the freeway and have marking on the road. then time you how fast it take you to travel a given section of road. bastards:mad

You kind of suck at explaing what happend. Did you keep going or get pulled over? And if you kept going how did he not pull you over if you passed him going 35mph?

sorry let me explain this better. the cop was one of those who has the radar van. he isnt supposed to chase after you. if you are speeding he takes a picture of you and it gets your face and license plate in the picture. they "run" your plates and then mail you the ticket. at least thats how i think it works. i didnt get pulled over. the whole point of my story was to say that i think i have a speeding ticket being mailed to me, and to find out if anyone has had this happen to them. if so how long did it take to get the ticket so i will know if i am screwed or not.

Don't worry, I got a ticket last summer on Autubahn in Germany for going over 200km/h on an 90km/h limit at night with a speed-photo device, received the letter from rental agency about the ticket, no word from police, I guess they decided not to pursue. :lol

What were you driving? Top Gear as a part where they tested those speed-photo devices, you have to be going around 170-180, 200km is the same:shifty , if your going that fast your our of the view of the camera.

That's probably why they didn't pursue it. They didn't have a clear shot of the car or the plate. :D

They had the plate #, cause police sent the ticket to rental agency, then rental agency sent my info back to police, but they didn't do anything about it. Lucky me. :redspot

I am not sure what city, (I'd have to look up from the papers), but I recall it was just before we crossed Holland . I don't even know why they limited the speed at that place, the road was a straight away. :eyecrazy

It was a Renault (Turbo), don't remember the model, but even 200km/h didn't seem that fast and was safe.

Oh course it felt safe. Everyone else was going that fast too i bet. :D
Or close to it.

It's like you going 80 here and everyone else going 60-70.

I never heard of them too,

Off-Topic: Do they have red-light cameras yet in Puget Sound?

I know a while back they had a couple up to test how well they work.

If they do the intersection will have signs posted to warn you about the camera.

Oregon 810.438 dictates that only the cities of Albany, Beaverton, Bend, Eugene, Medford, Portland, and Tigard are to operate camera devices. None of these cities may use the devices for more than 4 hours per day, and only off of freeways on streets in which speeding is causing a safety issue. Signs must be posted between 100 and 400 yards from the unit.

Yes they do, mostly in Tacoma area. They usually have a sign that tells you that.

My Mom told me that they are finishing testing on LASER highway cameras giving tickets on the East Coast. WA State will be one of the first states to instigate the highway camera ticket system. My Mom works for Lynnwood public works and they have the same camera system as the ones used on the highways. They are already set-up for it, it's more of a legislative thing at this point. Less than 2 years out from execution. V1 might help, but at that angle you'll probably need a Phaser/Jammer to at least prevent you from getting a ticket.

I was in the camera control office at the Lynnwood City Hall. The guy showed me how well those cameras can zoom...first he focused on a guy just across the street from the camera. Then he zoomed out down HWY 99 from 220th Street & HWY 99 in Edmonds to 148th St & HWY 99 Lynnwood/Lake Serene/S.Everett - that's almost 3 miles! He could see people inside their car from 2+ miles away. :banghead: WSP is going to have some Badass technology pretty soon. That, with ADAT, is going to make life a living hell to drive on the freeway. :(
