Short of getting a new stereo setup, what can be done to minimize the cd skipping that occurs in a 5er with stock cd changer and sport suspension when larger bumps are hit?

View Full Version : CD changer skipping due to sport suspension? mwadib 02-26-2006, 01:06 PM Short of getting a new stereo setup, what can be done to minimize the cd skipping that occurs in a 5er with stock cd changer and sport suspension when larger bumps are hit? fuddyduddy121 02-26-2006, 02:22 PM I believe it is easier for a CD changer to skip if the lens inside becomes dirty. forsaken 02-26-2006, 04:41 PM Hrmm... I would get some sort of padding or insulation to minimize the bumps that might cause the skipping... but I would check and see if the lens is dirty and clean it up with a Q-tip. gmannino 02-26-2006, 10:14 PM If your cd changer is skipping because of your suspension then you are in need a new changer. Most changer are very hard to get them to skip unless they are installed incorrectly or the vertical/horizonal switches are set wrong. You stock cd changer should not be skipping. coolguy 02-27-2006, 12:57 AM in my owners manual it says that a sports suspension will cause the cd to skip more... or somethin to that effect. NickAD 02-27-2006, 02:44 AM Mine skips when I hit bumps...I figure it just needs to be cleaned...I'm gonna try to clean the lens and see if it works better... 540i6sport 02-27-2006, 01:36 PM I have a '97 with the sport package and the only skipping I've had was most likely due to a bad disk that I burned. I suspect that the optics need to be cleaned free of dust and other elements. I think any attempts to resolve the situation with padding, foam, etc. will only lave you more frustrated. Good luck. Dwayne 02-27-2006, 01:44 PM I can count on one hand the number of times my changer has skipped in the two years I've had the car, and I have sport suspension, too. I would clean the lens first (might try a cleaning CD before you go poking around with a q-tip), check the vertical/horizontal switch on the changer if so equipped, and possibly see if someone you know has a different changer they could let you borrow to see if that solves it. NickAD 02-27-2006, 02:55 PM My dad has nearly the exact same car as me and I have never heard his skip. Mine skips all the time over bumps, and while I am sure my rubber band tires don't help, I have a feeling it probably just needs to be cleaned. 540i6sport 02-27-2006, 03:29 PM The prior owner of my car claimed at the time of sale that using the 4th slot in the CD magazine would result in having to reset the entire CD player. Of course I tried it .......... :devillook Happy to say that it worked fine. |
