i was replacing my valve cover on my car for the third and hopefully last time when i broke the stud that the cap nut screws on to. this is the second time it has happen to me. i was even using a tq wrench set at 120" lbs. where can i get this part #11121718856. no dealers keep them on stock or any of the web stores such pelican. they all want a week to order plus two days for shipping, when i need asap.

crap, i thought i was posting in the e36 forum. oh well any advice is much needed.

your best bet is going to be the stealership for this part unfortunately if you need it quick

you could try bmaparts.com for it - you'll save a bit on the price of the part, but then you'll have to pay shipping and it probably won't get to you as fast as through the $tealer.

I spent $55 a couple weeks ago on about 20 self-locking nuts at the dealership - the parts guy was kind of sheepish when he gave me the final price - even he realized that they were ripping me off... oh well, the only game in town when you need it now..

I think I have a few extras (unsed). I'm at my parents but I'll check when I get to my place.

Never mind. The only have 2 cap nuts (brand new) left.

Did you break the stud when torquing down the cap nut? I broke one stud while torquing down a nut cap as well. I read the torque rating in the Bently too quickly. You know the torque setting is in inches per pound NOT foot per pound, right?

yeah i broke it while torquing down the nut, but i had it set at 120"lbs or 10ftlbs.

I always go off of Newtons now. First I read newtons, then ftlbs, then check again in newtons.
