I would like to solve the issue of BROKERAGE tax's.

For us Canadians who has bought stuff from the states we all know how expensive the custom tax's are. It is also hard to find a Canadian buyer or seller in the For Sale section.

I wish that we could sell and buy stuff in this section of the forum. Althought this section of the forum is usually dead because its so hidden. I wish we can open a Canadian forum where people can visit easier. Mods? Perhaps a Canadian only buy and sell forum? Thanks!!
just my 2 cents.

whenver i have wuestions about duties i just call canada customs. the number is in the phone book. it is usually just gst for american made goods and then 6% for non us made auto parts. to avoid paying high duties just have the sender mark down the value of the goods.

"gifts" are also free of any duties.
Another thing that i do all the time is opt to be my own broker. I've only done it with UPS. Call them with your tracking number and ask them if you could broker the package yourself. Or refuse delivery at your door, and call in and ask the same. Then goto their office near the airport (turn right at the second light after the bridge). Pickup some documents from them, drive them to canada customs 5 mins down the road, pay your taxes, drive back to ups and pickup your package. While doing this, the customs agents sometimes chrarge me only 1 tax. I dont know if its by mistake or what, but if the package was delivered to my door, i would have payed that aditional 7% tax and duty (sometimes 20%).
Oh and you can opt to have your package delivered after you've payed your taxes (Wish i knew that when i picked up my tires/wheels <--try fitting a set in your e36 coupe!).
