As stated, I am thinking about getting a E30 but have never even riden in one. If I get one I plan on putting a e36 motor in it and swapping out the supension as well. Any years I need to stay away from? Also, any advise as to what I need to check when looking for a prospect? Any advise is appreciated....

Stay away from the 84-85 models and avoid the 318, M42 engine.

As far as anything else goes....ask Teaguer.

BTW...how is the e46 coming along?? :D

I would suggest sticking to the later model 89-91 cars for starters .
The 88 is technically a late model also but it still has the huge aluminum bumpers .
Easy swap though .

Do yourself a favor and sign up on e30tech and while there check out THIS (http://www.e30tech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3726) thread .

The older cars with big bumpers sell for cheap which would be good for the engine swap which is what I plan todo on my e30. Either a 323 head or M50 motor. If I can find a 323 head for $150 that is. Parts a cheap plenty of room under the hood when working on them. Get the 325is the eta is to slow.

Get it painted at macco for cheap since its a project car and not a show car.

Wow! Thanks for all the input. I have become a real bimmer fan and it is amazing how hard it is to decide since I wouldn't mind one of every model. So, Eric are you moving to Plano or have you not decided yet?

Good....but I think I might let the wife drive that for awile. I am going to either get a E30 or a E36 because there is so much more things you can do with them and I think the next car is going to be all about speed.
