Is is possible for the dealer to install a Navigation system? My dealer said that they couldn't install navigation for my 06. I have it in the ML and thought it would be a great feature to have in the X. If anyone knows, please answer this post.

Thanks

Anything is possible given time and money...but it will be prohibitively high on the bimmer since the entire wiring harness would need to be swap out meaning that your entire interior would need to be ripped apart to do the retrofit. Most dealers would not touch this and I, as a customer would not want such a thing to be done to my beloved vehicle either. You'll be better off trading it for another vehicle with NAV from the factory.

what he said, you're looking at (lowballing it) $6500 in parts alone, comprised of the following:

Nav housing
nav screen
frame for the screen
wiring harness
radio module ( the brains of the unit)
nav computer
nav disc/dvd
gps antenna
gps receiver
amplifier/trap circuit with nav splitter
brackets, bolts, clips, nuts, shims yada yada
case of beer for whoever is installing it
lotsa moola for all the labor
3 hours for programming alone.

Why do you need to have Circuit City install it? These are portable units...meaning that all you need is to install the suction cup mount and cigarette lighter power supply and you're good to go. Personally, I would not let those "hackers" at CC get within 10 feet of my car.

i install at CC, and cigarette lighter plug-ins are for suckers. you wanna have that clean ass ride and have some dangling ass wire hanging down from your windshield to your plug in?? i wouldn't either.

pop open the cig. plug and you can solder directly to the circuit board power and ground outputs. attach to 12v and ground and you're good to go.

those portable units are the shit

p.s. i install at CC and have worked on just about every car that is mass produced, meaning everything except for lambo's, ferrari's, etc, but i'll work on those too!! depends on which one you go to, just ask the guy installing it if he's comfortable doing it. if he says yes, let him do it, and if messes up, rip his ass. they'll pay for it. if he says he's uncomfortable, take it somewhere else. but i can tell you that at my CC, we install on ANY cars, bimmers are the same as kias, we take it all on and are successful in doing so. out of 63 stores in our region, we had the second lowest amount of fu*k ups reported to insurance than all the other stores.

Hey, NHenson. Could you tell me if my CC has had any major fu#k ups lately. I ask because my friend had his XM installed in his Jeep and they screwed up the heated seat and he to get a new one. I live near Charleston, WV, if you could tell me I would be greatfull.

I would like to also install a XM Roady XT car kit since the Benz already has the Roady XT in it.

I have just one more question for you, is the Sony ten disc changer really worth the money, because I was thinking of putting that in instead of the $595.00 BMW CD Changer.

Thanks, BMW X5 3.0i

ask your friend what the store number is of the store that messed his stuff up. it will be on his recepit. if you get me that, i can let you know. how did they mess up heated seats during a satellite radio install?? wild.

the sony cd changer works great, but:

1) the display is super ugly

2) it can only output FM modulated audio, so you will have to play the changer through a radio station instead of directly

3) the BMW changer might be more steep, but you can control it directly through your stereo and get true cd quality instead of FM.

as for the changer, you figure the changer itself is like $149, labor is $80, and you'll need two antenna adapters @ 13.77 a piece, and you're upwards to around $250.

i'd go w/ the bmw changer.

one thing you guys are forgetting:
FM modulated cd changers are the best bang for the buck, BUT they use a coax type cable to feed the signal into the radio, X5's don't have those cables, so an fm modulator would be worthless unless you use a wireless transmitter, which in turn sounds like crap, the BMW I-bus system is made to accept only the alpine changer made for bmw, I would put the I-pod interface in that thing if i were you.

very interesting. what does the x5 use?? could you not cut the antenna wire and hardwire it in??

You know, I think I'll get the iPod interface, but I would like to have to have them both, but as you know, you can't use the BMW changer and the iPod interface. So, I thought I would get both this way.

Future upgrades: XM car kit for Roady, CD changer, and iPod interface.

I would like to get all three without sacrificing.

My friend heated seat button just felt like it was missing the switch, everytime you hit it, the button would fall through. CC paid for the fix and everything is fine now.

By the way NHenson, the store # is 762

Thanks, for the iPod idea.

I went to CC today and had a Cobra Nav installed and they screwed me! They made me wait for 6 hours to get my Nav installed. Then all they did was suction cupped it to the damn window and then put it in the lighter. They charged me $50 for installation. I paid them to sauder in a light port behind the dash and they said they could not do it because of the airbags and all this shit. I knew they were lying. I was screwed out of about $1,000 worth of equipment.

I am really pissed at CC, I doubt if I will buy from there ever again.

I just don't know what to do now!!

CD Changers are yesterday's news. There is a way to get the iPod and XM integrated as if it were offered from factory with full steering wheel control and ID3 text.

Do you have Business CD or Navigation?

I have the Business CD. Doesn't BMW just offer Sirrius? I would like to have XM since I already have XM in my other car. I currently use an iTrip and the integration would be a great idea, no more static!

BMW only offers Sirius, but we can get the ice>Link Plus and XM installed as if it were offered from factory.

This gives you full steering wheel control and ID3 text as if Sirius were installed and gets along great with your CD Changer or the ice>Link Plus.
