As I (:D constantly:D ) troll the classifieds looking at and for M5's, I notice that everyone is generally looking for $14-20k for their e34's. Mileage is generally 80k to 130k and condition always seems to be approaching excellent. I looked at A LOT of them before buying mine and I know most of them aren't what they are advertised to be... but some must be! If I was to advertise mine I would call it an excellent condition driver with a perfect interior and no mods at all, 100% stock. Is mine only worth $14k? $12k? I didn't buy it for an investment but come on!!!

Then there always seems to be a car that despite advertising in every online classified seems not to sell for $12.5-14k. I remember a red one on LI, NY that seemed to be out there forever for $14k despite claims of excellent condition and running perfect. I also notice that California cars seem to fetch less than cars out here in the East (more were sold out there?).

Another quandry is the recent barage of M-sports for $14-15k with under 80k!! I thought these things were hard to find!?! am I just becoming desensitized to the value of $15k for a 10 year old car?

My question is this... What does everyone think of these things holding up in value? e36 M3's still fetch the same money as an e34 M5 it seems:eek:and everyone complains about how troublesome they are!!

No matter what happens, mine will be quietly sleeping in my garage, waiting for the next sunny day to POUNCE!!!

Your right on all points. The M3 is selling near the price if the M5 because there are people who know what the E36 M3 is. Its the most popular M model. There are teens and people in their 20's who notice that the M3 is now in their price range, when a couple years ago an M3 was just a dream. Thus there is a greater market for the M3 than there is for the E34 M5. If people want the cars, they will pay more money than what the car is worth. If people dont want the cars, the prices will drop so that the cars sell, like the M5. IMO the E34 M5 should be in the $18K-24K range. Also, the E34 is the last of the older looking BMW's. The E36 is the first of the modern BMW's. People see the horizontal slats on the grill and think the car as "old" while the E36 is still what people consider to be modern, so people want what is new. Theyre missing out though. :)
