I should be home, and if times work out, I'll be there.

Its not absolutely neccisary to wait on painting the car. The process does use a heat gun to warm the paint so it doesnt crack, but personally if I was about to paint a car I would roll the fenders first, you wouldnt even need to use the heat gun then. :D
shadyduk1979 02-19-2006, 04:45 PM ok that sounds good. If all goes according to plan (HA!) and i get the motor, new suspension in and body work done, that would be when i will be ready for paint so i will hold off till after
JClark 02-20-2006, 02:58 AM I would say Saturday. It would probably be a all day thing so you could show up whenever.
If easter conflicts with to many people we could do it another weekend. Im 90% sure that Im going to buy the tool so it could be done at any time. I just want to make sure there is enough interest to justify the purchase.
Great. And if I cant make it, then you have a renter for the future. :)
NewEra09 02-20-2006, 05:51 PM Im just wondering why anybody wants to roll their fenders?? I think I know why and im not being a smartass or anything but just wondering... Anybody have any good examples of some good fender rolling on their or someone they know's bimmer? I might consider doing it once I buy one in the next few days
vtbimmer 02-20-2006, 06:19 PM I need to roll my fenders because the tires will rub if I dont. For example, my wheels are 16x7.5 et20 Im using 225/45/16 tires which is the correct width tire for a 7.5" wheel. If I was to stretch 195 tires on I may not have to roll the fenders, but I would lose tire contact surface.
Understand?

Thats fine. Fairly easy and straight forward, as long as you can get it to hang straight.:D
PixMan 03-13-2006, 08:21 PM I'd love to do my E28 535i! I bought some 7-1/2x17 M5 wheels (throwing star, cookie cutter??) and I am very concerned that the 225/5-ZR17 Continental SportContact's I got for them are going to rub.
If at all possible, I'd also like to do my GTO to fit the 245/40-ZR18 BFG KDW NT's on 8x18 Zenetti Mystic's. I can't drive two cars at once though. ;)

vtbimmer 03-15-2006, 10:22 PM Sounds good.
vtbimmer 03-17-2006, 11:58 AM Ok update, I spoke with a friend who has a nice heated garage with a lift. He has expressed interest in hosting this event at his shop. I want to see if this is something everyone would be interested in. It would cost a bit more for those who want to roll so I can kick something back to him. Im thinking $25 instead of $15. It will make things quicker and easier and he is a very well qualified mechanic. He works on everything but his specialties are Porsche, BMW, and Toyota trucks. His shop is also heated which is a good thing since even April can be a bit nippy up in these parts. BBQ will still happen. I will bring the grill and cook up dogs and burgers as well as supply sody pops.
Let me know what you guys think.
For those not rolling but attending and eating I would ask a donation of $5 to go toward the food.
vtbimmer 03-17-2006, 06:35 PM Popsicle, I tried PMing you but your box is full.
Need confirmation as soon as you can on attending and rolling.
popsicle 03-18-2006, 12:17 AM i'm not sure on the rolling currently. sold my non vanos coupe last week and picked up a nice 94 sedan. but i think i'll still do it. i might bring the guy that purchased my car too.
Edit:
in either case i'll probably be there. just not sure if i'll be rolling or not. i will let you know after i put my suspension in next week.
vtbimmer 03-18-2006, 12:25 AM Cool, let me know either way.

If you want to read through the thread and post there so you can be updated as to when and where they are leaving from. I believe I am meeting everyone in Brattleboro Vt. which is the first town in southern Vt off of I91. I think a few of them know how to get there. Its real easy. If not or your going alone I can mapquest it for you.

popsicle 03-26-2006, 07:22 PM no i meant fron burlington to wherever you live? how long does it take you to get from burlington to your place? it takes me about 2hrs to get to brattleboro.
OT:
anyway i can have my o2 sensor changed there?
vtbimmer 03-26-2006, 07:31 PM Brattleboro is 30 min from here.
In the interest of getting all those that want to roll their fenders a chance any extra projects you have could be done in the upper level with a jack and stands.
It is possible that while your car is on the lift to get someone to help roll the fenders or replace the o2 sensor at the same time. There are plenty of us. I would advise you to bring any tools you may need to do side projects so we arent diving into my buddies crazy expensive tool box. He is being kind enough to let us use his impact wrench, lift and whatever size socket is needed to remove the wheels. The o2 sensor could be something you can do while you wait to roll the fenders too.
742002 04-03-2006, 10:34 AM where in bratt are you meeting?
vtbimmer 04-03-2006, 11:33 AM where in bratt are you meeting?
Not sure yet Tyrel. Im thinking of the Price Chopper parking lot cause its big enough for a few cars to roll in and its right off exit 1.
PixMan 04-14-2006, 08:54 PM I got my P225/45-ZR17 Continental ContiSport Contact tires mounted on my 7-1/2x17xET22 Style 23 Kontours today. To my amazement, they fit PERFECT on my '88 535i (E28), despite the stock wheels having about 10mm less offset.
So I don't need any fender rolling afterall! I was actually looking forward to it.
On the other hand, if it's OK, I could use a little further "adjustment" to the less-than-professional rolling job I paid for on my GTO a couple of weeks ago. I still have a touch of rub from a dig, and would like to see if I can get rid of it.
Of course I realize this was meant to be a BMW event, so if not OK to come up with my GTO, I'm cool with that. If I can bring it, I'd be willing to let certain people take swap-rides if interested.

We are meeting at the Price Chopper parking lot at 10am on Sunday. Exit 1 off I91 in Brattleboro.
PixMan 04-14-2006, 09:10 PM Thanks! I'll be there. I'm pretty sure you won't miss the non-BMW black car with the black wheels, dark windoze, and somewhat odd bark. ;)
Itsablurr 04-16-2006, 01:43 AM I won't be able to make it up there.... hope you guys have fun, and I'll def catch you at some of the other meets coming up.
PixMan 04-16-2006, 05:14 PM It was great fun, and big thanks go out to Brent for putting it together! I got the rear fender rolling of my non-BMW Aussiecar corrected, not even a hint of rubbing even from a hard launch.
Nice to meet a few BMW owner/drivers who are not snobs. Great bunch of guys, and BIG thanks to Carl who let us use his shop, his lift, his air impact, his torque wrench....
Also cool was have the Lambo Countach owner (Ian?) come by and allow rides. I've ridden in a Murcielago before, so didn't need a trip in that one but it was nice to look it over closely.
Thanks again to Brent for spending for the tool and putting the event together. Much appreciated. I just hope MORE PEOPLE would appreciate it by showing up should he offer it again sometime.

PixMan 04-16-2006, 08:42 PM The older I get, the less I do group rides. This is true of my motorcycling too. I'm 46 going on 73, it seems. OK, the real problem is that I see myself as smooth, which if true, equates to fast. In group rides I see too much speed without smooth. To me, that centerline is a virtual brick wall, and I don't go over it. Hell, I don't even cross the white fog line on the RH side of the road.
The gearbox is another thing. I use it. The streets are not a race track where I need to get to the corner before my competitor. Reading the road and using the gearbox and throttle together to master it smoothly without wearing out my brakes or my clutch is my mantra. In sportride-type motorcycling, this is referred to as "The Pace", titled from a beautifully written piece by Nick Ienatsch. (See also: http://www.ridehsta.com/html/safety.htm
Now my age gets me, because when I see "point & shoot" riders or, drivers, in front of me who are all over their brakes, are not smooth in their transitions and choose "race lines" at Warp3 speeds (I can drive Warp8 all day on those roads we were on), those drivers just drive me nuts (and that place is a short trip for me.) Better I just meet them in a parking lot then go separate ways.
But I'll try it at least once before I pass judgement.
742002 04-16-2006, 09:31 PM Thank you so much Brent for putting this meet together. I had a great time and got to meet some other people in the new england area that share our passion for these cars. Not to mention the ride in the countach was just plain sick!
Thanks again,
Tyrel

PixMan 04-16-2006, 10:13 PM Thanks for the photos. Didn't know you had planned on a ride, or perhaps I could've made a call to check up on things at home and hung around if OK.
I did have a real clean run down 100S to 112S, just one car to pass between Wilmington and Colrain MA, one more from the cross over RT2 to 116. I then got a clean run down 2/3rd's of 116S to 5/10. The best parts in Conley were behind a Subie Wrecks that couldn't drive.
Where did you take those photos of the cars after? Looks familiar.

Well the ride was a fairly short one. We drove back up rte 9 and parked at the 100 mile view on Hogback where we took the photos. Adam wanted to pick up some wine for his fiance there so it was a perfect excuse for photos. Then we drove to my house so Chris could pilage my e21 parts car. After that I took them down Rte 112 to Rte 2 where we split off and I came back home.
Itsablurr 04-16-2006, 11:59 PM Looks like it was fun- I really wish I could have been there, but last minute fam plans came about.... and in my fam, if you sketch out on that crap, esp on a religious holiday, you may as well have just killed someone's first born. :(
Hope to see you all at many many meets this season!
jjgbmw323 04-17-2006, 12:20 PM Hi.
I rolled the fenders and quarters on my 323i when it was sitting in primer.
I have to tell you, Brett, that even though i had to wait to get rent the machine from the tire rack, it was definately worth it.
Any issues from paint cracking? It may crack later on where u heated it with the gun.
Anyway since mine was in primer at that stage it came out awesome.
If my 323i was ready, and you all are in Bratt I would have taken a ride up.
Questions: Can my freind Johnny from arlington VT roll his fenders, and what ever happened to the B6 in NH?
I am working on the fuel pumps, so it wont be much longer and the 323i will be on the road.

He can definately roll his fenders. I own the tool so thats not a issue. Just PM me if he needs my contact info.
I could never get ahold of the guy about the B6 after the initial contact. I honestly dont think he wanted to sell it. It was his wife pushing the issue.
