I've got a friend that has a newer x5, 2001, and we want to read some codes from it. I have a code reader for my 95 m3, and the typical snap-on reader that just about ever shop has that works with obdII. can I use my snap on reader, or do I need to get a new one?

My snap on is the most recent update, it actually belongs to my buddy that owns a shop. I'm just wondering if it will mate properly with the port on the bmw x5. It will work computer wise on the m3, but not with the port- it's not the circle that's on my old car. I don't know what's on the x5, but I'm hoping that the snap on will work since my computer won't.
