Am considering replacing the cheap aftermarket radio in my "new" 97 840. I was considering getting one with sirius or xm.

anybody have a good idea on where/how to place antenna? I was thinking right above rear trunk. but how to get that wire into the console?? this think is so tightly put together!!
any help appreciated

I have Sirius in my 840.

You need to find the new small antenna, The old big one is too ugly to put outside. Mine is mounted on the dash and works OK until the satellites are low and the trees are tall.

The shifter console is fairly easy to get thru Just the shift boot and 2 screws.
The center console comes loose with just a few screws.
The rear seat bottoms come out and the back central pad is easy to get out.

In the trunk let the amplifier compartment cover down. The carpet covers come out with a few plastic "Nuts".

The sat reciever will mount on the amplifier bracket and the door will still close.

Power is close and the On signal for the amp can be easilly tapped to provide "On" for the Sat system (Subwoofer too!)

so you have the reciever mounted in the trunk and just use the remote?, or is your sirius integral with your indash radio? I have a starmate repaly, but could not find a decent local in the cockpit, i was considering getting a radio with the sirius built in.

one more question if I may, If the reviever is in the trunk, why did you mount the antenna on the dash and run it back thru the car to the trunk? to avoid it being on the outside (ie ugly) ?
thanks

I wanted to use a CD Changer also but found out too late that I needed another Panasonic switch box that didn't seem to be available anywhere to be able to use both inputs connected to the head unit at the same time.

So after that I tossed the antenna in the back window--Zero signal thru the tint and powered antenna wiring in the glass. So windshield it was to keep that ugly thing out of the profile of the car. Lots of practice running wires:rolleyes

So now I have the Sat remote mounted on Velcro by the Hazard switch and a malignant lump in the middle of the dash. CD changer works well:) Wires are all out of sight.
