Item #4 is attached to the bottom of each light assembly...which you can see in pic below (headlight assembly is turned upside down) taken from Mark Caldwells instructions on chromelining from www.e38.org:

ETK it is the program whit all the parts theat bmw have it. This is a photo from a E38 made in 2001 If you found some parts theat you don`t have it tell me the number of the parts fom the photo and i will tell you the bmw original number to search for them

hmmm, am I missing something here? :confused I posted a link to the online parts database that has the correct diagram AND the part numbers for the trim piece he needs to attach the scallop trim to...and also posted a "real" pic of the piece.

I guess my previous post was confusing...

You need to look under VEHICLE TRIM (main group) and EXTERIOR TRIM/GRILL (sub group) to find the ETK diagram for the part he is looking for. The part number for 99-01 headlight assemblies is 51 13 8 236 889/890 (left/right) ... and for the 95-98 headlight assemblies 51 13 8 157 937/938 (left/right). :D

guys i got it thanks for your help i order the parts today that i was missing

Just wondering, if you buy the non xenon 99-01 headlamps, can you modify the setup using your old Xenons actual lamps and pretty much just switch out all the stuff would it still fit? I dont know of anyone trying it, but i have seen people who leave the 95-98's just switch out the lens and inner bezels for 99-01 and add the 99-01 corners.

I did mine perfectly but car not yet ready need some interior wash and cleaning
