Sawbones, GAC tires don't have grooves and these do. These must be some sort of DOT Hoosier R3S03 or R3S04.

Um, no. These are GAC tires, purchaded DIRECTLY from Hoosier last season. They have 2 circumferential grooves. You may be thinking of the Rolex tires with the white lettering. The GAC uses the same mold as the R3S04 (or S03, can't remember which) with a different endurance compound. Please refer to pic below and the Hoosier site has pics as well that I was unable to upload.

Cool thanks for clarifying that with that pic. Yeah the GAC ST ones I got from Turner had no grooves and also the white lettering. Odd, I wonder if they changed them at some point, I got mine after the Mid-Ohio round and it wasn't that they were worn since I could still see the holographic tread on them just no grooves at all. Oh well, the tires look good.

2004 tires were discontinued, as the 2005 tires were new.

LAKEVILLE, IN (January 5) -- Effective immediately, Hoosier is offering last year's Grand American Cup and Rolex Series tires at discounted prices. We have added the entire 2004 Grand-Am Cup and Rolex Series (SGS class) tire line(s) to our discontinued listing at dramatically reduced prices. In 2005, all new tire designs are being produced for the Grand American Road Racing Series and we need to make room for them. Tires will be sold on a first-come first-served basis until the inventory has been depleted.

DISCONTINUED GRAND AMERICAN CUP TIRES
These tires were used in the Grand American Cup Series in 2004. They are based on the Hoosier R3S03 design. While these look like the R3S03 model, they are not DOT designated. They have added enhancements of a steel belt and an endurance compound. The performance level is quite high. These tires are very predictable and provide very good wear characteristics.

These tires would be excellent for lapping and track testing days where a DOT designation isn’t required

Thanks Steve. As he indicated, these tires are great for lapping days, etc. They have great stick and last forever. I would put the somewhere between the Toyo RA-1 and the Hoosier DOT-R (S04 or 5). They will last several more weekends for the buyer. I would love to keep running them, but I need a DOT-R tire for competition.

Los,
Indeed, the 2005 season was a *new* spec tire in GAC. These could be 2004 GAC spec tires or possibly older.....

The buddy of mine I crew for has raced GAC since it's inception (and Motorola Cup before that). It seems each season has a different spec tire.

Cheers,
Chet

Contact MAD KAO. He has plenty of GAC's available, as well as RA-1's.
