I fixed my diff, which was broken, but that didnt solve my clunking noise from the rear. Before the diff fix, it felt like an explosion under the car, where i could feel something hit the bottom of the car hard. But now its a small clunking noise from the rear. Every time i shift, push the clutch in, or go on the accelerator and let off, it makes the noise. Do you guys think its a trans mount? Or is my diff or trans still messed up.

Could be a few things. If it's a clunking sound it could be a half shaft CV or a drive shaft u-joint. Or it could be your center support. I'll be at my friends shop this AM until about noon. Call me on my cell at 358-8316.
I hate rear end noises. I just replaced the drive shaft in my 86 ES which eliminated a vibration and 1 clunking noise but I still have a slight clunk when letting off the accelerator. Probably half shafts. It never ends.
Aloha,
Mike

here's a cheap fix to try if you're not already running Red Line diff oil. From the Tech Talk column in the 11/2005 Roundel, with a big thank you to Mike Miller:
...after replacing the CV joints, axles and bearings to no avail, I finally put Red Line's heaviest differential fluid in my final drive and that clunking noise was gone. ...the clunk only occurred on hard turns in parking maneuvers. I was amazed that changing the differential fluid to Red Line cured the problem - not only right away, but for good.
Mike Miller responded: very interesting. So, you used Red Line 80W-140 Synthetic Gear Oil? Or did you use Red Line Shockproof Heavy? It could be that the differential previously had some substandard gear oil inside it, and Red Line 75W-90 would have cured the problem.
fwiw :cool
