:stickoutt EWS IS A PIECE OF S***T THAT DOESN'T LET YOU START YOUR ENGINE WHEN YOU MOST NEED IT:stickoutt

J/K

I been shot down by this feature like 3 times.:( in different projects

Don't take me wrong it's a good feature that will stop a theif from stealing your car.

So 3 times I searched the web looking for answers and nothing. I found theories that helped to get to the final answer..

If you have a E36 OBD1 harness w/a EWS DME and you are making a swap or disableing the EWS you have to CHANGE THE DME CHIP to a none EWS chip out of a early year E36, and cut the solid green wire on the harness PIN #66.

So EWS DME with a None EWS chip + cut off pin #66 = :D :redspot :alright

If the wire harness is not from a EWS car don't need to cut anything, just change the chip for a none EWS chip

all this is for OBD1 ONLY

If I helped let me know if not PM me and I migh be able to help you some more.

I hope you find this thread :help ful

I know how it is to be finished with the swap and have a not working engine....;)

Anyway thanks for looking

This is useful info... probably would be better in the E36 forum tho. I'll move it over there after it drops off the current page.

You have to change your Chip to a none EWS, or I belive there is a way that you don't have to by bypassing 3 and 9, check first, Do a search and you will find out.

Bump for a related question:

I have a 95 318ic with the EWS-II (03/95 '0 261 203 357' ECU) and I want to chip it. Does the chip itself have the EWS-II programming?

My thought is I could install a 92-94 performance chip (that does not have the EWS-II) and then cut that one wire like mentioned above. Would it work?

Bump. Car won't start . :(

Where is all this stuff you're talking about? In the DME? Underneath the steering column?

Ugh wtf. I got it to work. It was an issue with the doors being locked etc etc.

But I want to the delete, so how do I go about finding this?

I have a 9/94 M3.

Chip: will be inside the DME
Pin#66: You can find it by the DME harness, the DME is plug is label.

I dunno what else there is to find...

Raf, check out this thread.

I got a TRM chip, did what you told me, and clipped my DME #66 wire, and ALSO clipped the #7 wire at the circular thing in my engine bay.

Yet, the car still doesn't turn over...
