View Full Version : DC Area Folks - MIR Drag Racing ///MINI 09-18-2002, 08:08 AM http://www.mirdrag.com/schedule/weekly.htm I like the Fridays in October myself. We'll be checking that out! SilverStreak 09-18-2002, 08:12 AM Fridays aren't great for me, in general, to travel so far. And I'm away from 10/11 - 10/20. But if/when you guys set a date, post it, and I'll do my best to make it there. SilverStreak 09-18-2002, 08:13 AM Sunday 10/6 is a Test n Tune.... :devillook SilverStreak 09-18-2002, 08:20 AM About 185 miles for me, 4 hrs drive time.... according to MapQuest... ///MINI 09-18-2002, 09:56 AM Should we try for that 10/6 then? SilverStreak 09-18-2002, 10:07 AM Sure, but honestly arrange what is best for you local folks, don't plan around me, my schedule is nuts amd can change too often, and with me being away 10/11-10/20, I might need that weekend before going away to do stuff, etc... Don't plan around me, set up what is best for most of you, inform me of when it is, and I'll see if I can make it. That being said, 10/6 does look good for me right now... :D kaiwang 09-18-2002, 10:08 PM i'll be there! KaiWang@yahoo.com AIM: KaiLWang Yahoo IM: KaiWang http://mydishusa.com/kai/coupe_s2k_100.jpg (http://mydishusa.com?refsite=bimm) ///MINI 09-18-2002, 10:13 PM Cool. The more the merrier. ///MINI 09-23-2002, 10:26 AM Anyone else gonna show? I hear some Roadfly folks are planning on it as well. Should be a good turnout of BMW's. Cabby 09-23-2002, 12:29 PM So is Oct 6th the official day? NoSoup4U 09-23-2002, 03:24 PM I told John it's okay to bring a roadfly contingent...the more the merrier. So, they'll be s52, S50, and S54's there as well. Some E39's, I believe some S/C 740il which I would love to see. They are actually thinking of renting out MIR for one day and allowing just bimmers to make runs. I told him of course, "kick ass idea." I am coming to MIR.......I wonder if my co-worker would be interested in bringing his lambo...mmm...he always bets...he told last week, $1000 -- winner take all...I'm like...I don't know...I don't make 7 figures like he does..... although, if you beat it, he might be quite pissed...haha.... Unfortunately, I can't get some of my audi friends to come. I wanted to see what a chipped S4 with bigger turbo's would do; but, he's taking it to an audi meet or something like that. I've been watching WRC on speedvision at night -- I'm hooked. ///MINI 09-23-2002, 05:12 PM Which Lambo? The Murcielago? If it's a Diablo, I may have a chance. The Murcielago is another story. It would take Dave's driving to handle that. Dark Helmet 09-25-2002, 07:55 PM Phil's car (or Seans) + dave's driving + Dave's drag-radials= big trouble for little lambo..... DAVE: dude, nice car MR LAMBO: i know DAVE: wanna race MR LAMBO: only for $1000 DAVE: how many times have you been to the track? MR LAMBO: I usually just race it on the street DAVE: then make it 5-grand, PER CAR! MR. LAMBO: huh? DAVE: 3 bimmers, 3 runs, $15,000. (proceeds split with car owners). MR LAMBO: you're on! (thinking: damn, I can get those new tires now!) . . . . . . . . . DAVE: thank you... it's been nice doing b'ness with you MR LAMBO: WAAAAAA! Dark Helmet 09-25-2002, 08:01 PM or dave could run him for the title... then he could sell the POS italian and shar ethe wealth with all of us. ///MINI 09-25-2002, 08:06 PM LOL! I'll believe it when I see it. I'm game. SilverStreak 09-26-2002, 11:03 AM Thanks for the confidence, boys! :D ///MINI 09-30-2002, 08:41 AM So, who's coming? What time? How long? NoSoup4U 09-30-2002, 09:32 AM I am going to bring both bimmers, to see how they do. Let's set a meeting time, place, and maybe something to eat beforehand. How about SLOWEST time buys food?? I might be the slowest with the green bimmer tho'....:( Although, maybe the best time should be the buyer... haha... I looked at the roadster's weight, you might have the edge with 386 rwhp.....I am only going to make the run at 7 lbs... ... maybe 13 lbs...... ///MINI 09-30-2002, 09:51 AM Gates open at 10AM. I probably won't stay that long. I will try to get some decent runs in early and then possibly get kicked out for no roll cage. I'd like to get home to see some football too. NoSoup4U 09-30-2002, 10:43 AM Well..my team just stinks this year so they are not even worth watching..........my Team got DESTROYED ....45-28...AT home no less... (Michigan v. Illinois)....!!........ and damn the bears.... that's consecutive losses, last week's was just unbelievable....being down 20 pts. in the NFL should be a death sentence to any team....except for ones playing the Bears.... Mmm...10:00 a.m....that IS early....for me at least......what times do you need to run for a rollcage? 12's or 11's? ///MINI 09-30-2002, 11:55 AM Better than 13.99 for convertibles requires a roll cage and helmet. Better than 13.99 for non-convertibles requires a helmet. Earlier in the day means cooler temps, which means better times. NoSoup4U 09-30-2002, 02:33 PM I was thinking the 6th was Saturday rather than Sunday. What time does the Redskins play on Saturday? I wonder when the Bears play as well....mmm.... Will they let me run then since I don't have a helmet? You should be running low 12's or high 11's with your setup now? ///MINI 09-30-2002, 02:36 PM I'm gonna try and borrow a helmet from my friends at In-Line. Otherwise, I'll just buy one on Saturday. Dave! Are you coming or what??? SilverStreak 10-01-2002, 10:32 AM We'll have to see, but it doesn't look great... I'm away 10/11-10/20, so this is my last weekend around here to get some stuff done on the weekends... Dark Helmet 10-01-2002, 11:41 PM dave... just make it happen. you really don't want to miss this chance. SilverStreak 10-02-2002, 10:58 AM Family first, dude... ///MINI 10-02-2002, 11:03 AM But, you're my dad! kaiwang 10-02-2002, 05:07 PM ok im stupid. bear with me.. so which freakin day are we going to MIR? Saturday 10/5 or Sunday 10/6 ??????? ///MINI 10-02-2002, 05:14 PM 10/6 Sunday NoSoup4U 10-02-2002, 05:30 PM I am going to be talking to John from Roadfly tomorrow. His car ran a 13.6 I believe on a slipping clutch, he just replaced it -- he said he has a guy from Albany, NY that is coming down for this. He also called Jason (I guess he's the track owner of MIR??) -- he said to bring long pants, and an additional long sleeve shirt (I don't know why...)... John is bringing two helmets I believe and I told him if his other contingents have extra helmets to bring them as well -- I should be able to scrounge up an additional two as well. As long as you stay above 11.49 -- you will not need a cage and not be kicked out (if you make one pass at less than 11.49, then you're still okay...just don't make 2 like that)-- as long as you have a helmet on. Hope this helps in how you decide to make your passes. He said the weight machine was just recalibrated so it should give you an accurate weight at the scale there as well. If there's any questions you might have or comments -- let me know, I am going to call him tomorrow -- no time tonight. Sounds like a pretty good group will be there -- some are just curious about your car (seriously, you're infamous now) and want to watch you run a 15 sec 1/4...hahaha. JD32 10-02-2002, 06:46 PM wish i could be there this sunday ///MINI 10-02-2002, 07:38 PM Well, that changes everything! I seriously doubt I will run faster than 11.59. But, this means I can try like a mofo to do my best on every run! Great news, James. Great news! SilverStreak 10-03-2002, 08:48 AM Yes, you need long pants and long sleeve shirts (in case of fire, etc). That's great news on the 11.49. Does anyone know the elevation of MIR??? NoSoup4U 10-03-2002, 09:35 AM will answer some questions: 1) dogs are allowed 2) non-glass bottled beer is allowed (kind of weird if you ask me...) 3) you can buy 111 Octane gas there as well I just called MIR - and spent 30 minutes on the phone (thank god for a speakerphone) and they tracked down someone that said it is 80 Feet above sea level... I don't know the veracity of that statement though re: sea level; but, I called twice -- and that's what they said twice..... http://www.mirdrag.com/FAQ.htm ///MINI 10-03-2002, 11:00 AM James, can you confirm whether the same rules apply for convertibles? NoSoup4U 10-03-2002, 03:42 PM If anyone is coming that would need a helmet John says we can rent helmets. But-- people can feel free to borrow my helmet, provided they wash their hair first. The helmet I am bringing was bought at OG Racing actually...lol...by a coworker. I should have two helmets ... maybe more ... James, We can rent helmets from OG Racing $35/full face or $25/open face and you can buy shoes from them at a discount through me/Roadfly. Pass the message to the others. Call me dude. John ///MINI 10-03-2002, 04:04 PM James, is OG Racing open on weekends? BTW, I call one of your helmets! :D NoSoup4U 10-03-2002, 04:48 PM Phil - I just talked to John on the phone -- there's this mini that had a COMPLETE interior done for only $1125 (that includes labor). Entire dash/side panels, and seats were done -- great price -- that's something I am seriously considering now. I'll let you know more information if you are interested after I stop by this place. I'd love to see the mini. This saturday, at STERLING -- from noon until 4:00 there is Octoberfest there. The mini with the interior will be there, and there'll be food, etc...so, if you are around -- maybe you want to swing by. Regarding the Helmets -- John will stop by and pick them up tomorrow. He says you only need an open-face helmet ($25). Basically, call Donny (703) 257-0009 and tell him you are with the Roadfly group and pay him over the phone with a CC and John will bring the helmet on Sunday -- or, you could borrow mine -- it's up to you. But - maybe we should let others know that are interested in coming .... that if they want a helmet, they have to place the order tomorrow for John to go by and pick it up. These are BRAND NEW HELMETS...not used ones either, so -- if that makes a difference. He's doing it as a favor to Roadfly and also for a little publicity for OG Racing as well. So, these will be brand new helmets. John is stopping there tomorrow to purchase other things, so it's no big deal. I don't know how many people will show-up, I know that you and I, John and his friend will show up. So, at least five bimmers (I am going to run my green one as well) will be make runs. Like some people, others are "probably" going to come....and there are a couple of people coming just to watch and take some photo's for I don't know what reason. If anyone is coming with a FULL roll-bar cage -- we can also rent camera mounts for them. Unfortunately, nothing they have can mount to the roadster's bars or the Z3 bars... So, let me know if you want a helmet and I'll tell John. You need to tell them your size, S, M, L, XL. Thanks, James ///MINI 10-03-2002, 04:56 PM James, I think I'll swing by there on Saturday myself and pick one up if I can manage it. OG Racing is in Manassas, right? But, just in case I would very much appreciate being able to borrow one of yours. Thanks again for getting all this information. This should be a fund time! NoSoup4U 10-03-2002, 05:23 PM They are open on Saturday from 10-4:00. Just in case, if you decide to RENT a helmet -- I would call tomorrow since I know Donny will be in and tell him you are coming in Saturday to pick it up yourself. Other than that, it should be fun! I look forward to seeing John's car...it's a 540is, six-spd, last time he got a 13.6 on 19 inch balding tires at 96 degrees and a slipping clutch, he's had some exhaust work done and a new clutch installed. The weather looks like it will be perfect...it's a shame with that shooter in Md. I'd keep to the indoors....until they catch that freak....so if you see a white van come rolling up, put the pedal to the metal... |
