View Full Version : Purchased a performance chip for my E34, installed it and car won't start
357Choppers 02-08-2006, 12:12 AM Hey everybody...I purchased a performance chip off Ebay. Pulled out the board today, installed the chip, and the car turns over but does NOT start. When I put the old chip back in, the car runs fine, but now the ABS light on the dash is lit up constantly.
Has anybody had a similar experience?
Thanks!

NikosX 02-08-2006, 12:56 AM What was the name brand of the chip? And what was the part number on it?
How much power was it supposed to yield? ( I just bought one and now ur making me nervous )

Kdog2112 02-08-2006, 01:00 AM nope not if you bought a real name brand performance chip - I have an eat - make sure it is for your ecu
NikosX 02-08-2006, 01:11 AM I just bought a DINAN from eBay. Came in a little Dinan box with the appropriate numbers and codes. The seller said it has been tested and is guaranteed against DOA whatever that means.

DOA means Dead on Arrival
hakwuzhere 02-08-2006, 01:32 AM DINAN on Ebay /= Read DINAN products....
NikosX 02-08-2006, 01:36 AM chip says copyright 1994 on it. Its been in a car, i can see that just by looking at the pins.
Am i screwed or what? Whats the deal? And what does DOA really mean?
hakwuzhere 02-08-2006, 01:49 AM DOA really means Dead On Arrival... its a medical term
NikosX 02-08-2006, 01:54 AM lol... i know that. Too much L&O SVU.

Kdog2112 02-08-2006, 01:37 PM sounds like its a bad chip - return it and just get an EAT from Mark....its the best way to go...dont buy a performance chip from ebay - that was your first mistake..it says DINAN but is it really?
shragon 02-08-2006, 01:42 PM be very careful buying chips from ebay. most of it is garbage.
some dinan chips on ebay may be legit though, and just used from a previous owner. my suggestion would be to look what else the seller is selling or sold in the past. if it's a bunch of dinan chips, stay away.
vnv01 02-08-2006, 02:56 PM Well, a little late to be told to stay away now, eh? Put back your original ECU (You DID buy a spare ECU to put your chip into, right?) if this IS your original, pull the chip, replace the stock chip, and pray that you haven't bent a pin, or worse fried the entire unit. Worst case scenario, start looking for a good, used ECU with identical ending ID#... good luck

It's all good man. I put the old one back into it, and all is well.
Thanks for all your help!

killcrap 02-08-2006, 06:42 PM iirc, there should of been a clip to hold the chip in there so its nice and tight.
