i drive a 97 328ic, stock.
i want the smoothest ride possible. here's my query;
with regard to suspension, rim, tires, and all other things ride related, what gives the smoothest ride? i realize this is a broad query in the tire/wheel forum, but it seems appropriate.
edit: aside from tires, what i'd like to know is, is there something that will soften the ride, suspension-wise. i like what i got, but softer wouldn't be a problem.
i'm not a track man - rather; a cruiser.

I have a 98 328i and the smoothest my ride has ever been was with the stock suspension and stock 15" tires. Not sure if this helps.

anything helps. thanks for your reply. i suppose smaller rims and the taller the tire, the softer the ride?
cheers,

I would say 16" Wheels with 205/55/16s and a tire chosen for comfort along with a stock suspension in good condition will probably be your best alternative. I've noticed you wont gain much more softness going to 15s but will sacrifice slight handling for practically nothing.

Something Like Yokohama Avid V4s in 205/55/16 will give you performance and still give you a smooth and comfortable ride. I would say if you want anything smoother you can probably get it, but sacrifice handling and not get much smoother. Its the nature of an e36 vert.

I hate to say it but you aren't driving a smooth car. Get a Lincoln towncar for that. The problem with what you are trying to accomplish is the car wasn't designed for this and no one is making a kit (springs, shocks, tires, etc) to smooth out a sports car.
The best you can or should do is go minus one on the wheel size with a comfort tire. Your car will not handle the same so be prepared. Keep in mind seat design also plays into the overall feel of the car.

I think the stock suspension is very smooth... With the stock wheels and tires it should be very comfortable.
