View Full Version : AEM Electronic management M50/52 engine
This is one of the finest and easiest to use EMS on the market. Its a stand alone unit which replaces the Factory ECU and is fully programmable with your laptop. It includes the complete harness w/sensors which are factory standard, instructional CD and a dash mounted UEGO wide band dash guage w/LED and dial indicator. This is a plug and play for serious racing applications at half the price of the nearest competitor Motec. The R&D has already been done for the 3.2 liter BMW and new without programming cost me $ 3250. Its been in the car for just a couple of months and is in perfect working order. The sale of my engine makes this deal possible. I will sell with UEGO dash gauge and complete engine harness for $2500.00. Serious inquires only please.
hotshu 02-09-2006, 07:03 PM Is it setup for electronic launch & traction control? Who did the programming & bought from EvoSport?
No traction control. Race only!!

It has 2 step rev limiters, anti-lag launch control, and traction control but I'm sure the parameters aren't setup.

LOL @ entire thread.

Yep. The ability is there, it is just not activated on any e36 yet. We are going to get the traction working on JDHolders race car early this season.
Thanks
Brad

I'll believe that the AEM works on an OBD2 E36 when I see it.

Your welcome anytime. If this is who I think it is, then you need to look to BL for all the woes.
Tell you what, I will buy your airfare out here to report. If you see it running, then you can repay me and report back. How does that sound?
Just installed systems on a 99 MCoupe and 99 MRoadster too.
Thanks
Brad

Does that mean he'll still race us if it he comes East and it rains. :D
Bump for a good system. Wish it has been an option back when we went down the TEC-III road.

For the past 5 days? Maybe they got the problems fixed. But I should have said I'll believe it's plug and play when I see it. Of course keeping the A/C and other daily driver conveniences. It retrospect, I should have just made a go at the wiring instead of waiting for a "plug and play".
I read your site, looks like a fun car, nice work.

I need to grow some ........ first!

The AC is in my car, and although the factory traction control is now disabled, I will have traction control, boost control, 2-step limiter and knock retard through the AEM. The OBC displays incorrect "consumption" and "range" data, but it is a small price to pay. Maybe there is some way around it.
I set up the factory VSS to provide the correct reading yesterday. Once I finish my clutch install this weekend I have a lot of street tuning to do. The stock clutch was begging for forgiveness
:devillook

Dude - you need to talk to BL. You really should stop trashing us and the AEM when your problems stem from them. If you want to call me I can DETAIL this to you. I am really getting tired of taking this crap due to someone else outside of our control creating the problem.
KEY - make sure the company that installs this is competent to do it, that they actually listen to the manufacturer and that they don't try to open up the box and/or harness to mess with things.
I also made you an offer. I am more then happy to send the plane ticket to you on Monday. You game?
I really hate having to take this tone as you are a military guy, and I have great respect for what you do for the US. I come from a military family as well. However, the military training should teach you to question. If you have isolated issues that others don't - what is the difference? Maybe the isntaller?????
Thanks
Brad

I'm not trash talking, just stating my views. I'm very skeptical of what EvoSport says. From about March, maybe even February of last year I was told it would only be 2 more weeks, 3 weeks tops. If you had told me that it would be 5 months (actually I think I finally got it from you in October), I would have been OK with that and would have gone with another system from the start. But for months I listened to YOU told me, "it'll be ready in 2 weeks".
I'd love to take you up on the offer, but the reason I eventually had to go with a TEC3R instead of the AEM is because I was deploying. I'm now in Iraq and wanted my car running before I left. I had the car running 20 minutes after getting a TEC3R and got to drive it for a couple weeks before I left.
I'll be stateside in a year and will be in Southern California, maybe I'll swing by and see if it's plug 'n play. I still would prefer an AEM over a TEC3R.
card counter 02-19-2006, 07:51 AM The good thing is its easier to find some one to tune the AEM than Tec3

I understand your frustration, but again, you need to look to BL. I personally told you that we would not sell to them until I had a signed dealer agreement in hand. It took them months to get that back to us. I refuse to detail all this on a public forum. If you want ALL the facts, you should hear both sides rather then just assuming that the one side you heard is correct. You are free to call or email me and the offer will stand in a day or a year, we certianly have nothing to hide here as the system works.
BTW - did you read the part that once we got your AEM EMS back, it WORKED in another car - 1st try?
Sorry again for all the issues you had, I really wish it had gone another way, but the fault is not 100% ours, and I think that you know that. However, the fact that you keep posting negative things is very troubling, especially considering that the 'facts' you have are not accurate.
Thanks
brad
My AEM has worked well with the M50 engine and reason I'm selling is that I sold engine. Brad's point is well taken and Jon Holder is proof that its working well.
xjeeper 02-26-2006, 03:35 AM isnt AEM only like $1000 for other cars?
namike 02-27-2006, 04:48 PM $1500-$1800 depending on what options your application requries. The AEM W/B is $400? by itself. The AEM CDI box is $400ish. Now the reverse engineering and PnP onto a non-supported application (the BMW M50/S50/S52 platform) and their pricing is not that bad.
Mike
Brad @ evosport 02-27-2006, 05:47 PM We sell the BMW EMS for just under $1700.00 actually in package. The $3195 is a total price for the kit, that includes:
- AEM Programmable Engine Management System (EMS)
- AEM CDI Kit, 4-Channel
- AEM Pems Connector Kit
- AEM Single Channel Wideband Uego Sensor Kit
- BMW Bosch OBD1 ECU Header
So for all those that are up in arms for the pricing, I am not sure I get it. :rolleyes
Thanks
Brad
