Hello all! Just wanted to post and see if anyone on here had encountered a similar issue with the X5 4.4i transmission.

I have read some complaints/comments here and on other boards about the X5 tranny feeling as though it is "lugging" and being slow to shift on occasion. In my case, the transmission on my '02 4.4i (40K miles) seems to "hunt" for a gear and then lunge forward , especially at stops where the front wheels are turned. I can depress the gas about 1/3 to halfway for a "normal" departure, but nothing seems to happen for a bit. I can feel the transmission hunting for a gear, and then, after I've depressed the pedal much further because nothing is happening, the car finally drops into a lower gear and lunges forward.

Very annoying, and potentially dangerous, as in the time it did it and literally almost stalled as I was pulling out into traffic on a highway. It will also do it occasionally if the car is at speed, but I have taken my foot off the gas. I will step on the gas again, and nothing/the hunting will happen for a bit before the car finds a/the right gear and surges forward. I thought it was more prone to happen while in "D", but it has also done it, albeit not as frequently, in the auto "Sport" mode, including a downshift yesterday that was so hard/loud my GF noticed/commented on it.

Has anyone had or heard of a similar problem? I took the car to the delaership when this started happening about a month ago, and, of course, the service tech test drove the car and "could not replicate" my complaint. I have had powerful 4 wheel drive cars with auto trannys before (an 01 Audi S4 w/tiptronic), so I think I know what it's supposed to do and not do, and my car is not performing properly, IMHO. I know most of the newer euro-sport automatics have software that adjusts to the driver's style, etc., but can this be flashed or re-claibrated by the dealer? Any other ideas/suggestions? I brought the car in under warranty with the complaint, so I'd obviously like to get any potentially expensive repair done sooner rather than later...

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Otherwise, it's been a wonderful vehicle to own...
