Picked up my 2006 330xi a couple weeks ago and have been slowly learning the features. I did not get iDrive system and have still not been able to figure out how to turn on the daytime running lights as the default setting. I leave the light in the Auto Mode but I do not see any running lights.

Any help here would be appreciated

AFAIK....for the E46 it was a feature that the dealer had to enable for you.
Are you saying that the iDrive will allow you to activate the features that previously needed the dealerships help?

Yes iDrive cars made after September 2005 u can turn on/off DRL's yourself.
Cars built before 9/2005 has to be done by dealer & always will be to.

You can turn them on yourself via the Idrive hell or via the stalk on the left column of steering wheel. Scroll through until you see the what looks like a key then toggle using the wheel in the middle. I've changed the way the seats reset, locks open, daytime running lamps, etc....

To ChisMac15.

Thanks for the tip. I think they are working as they are supposed to. With the lights in the off position I have a soft light from the inner two headlight. What I don't know until daytime, is what's going to happen in the automatic position when it's bright out. Hopefully the DRL's will work ok and when it's time for regular headlights the auto feature will turn off the DRL's.

Thanks again.

There is a specific setting for whether the DRLs are on or off in my E90 325i. Like ChrisMac15 said, you use the turn signal stalk to change the settings. You can change all kinds of stuff there, like how many times the turn signal blinks when you push it lightly, auto memory seat activation, central locking system, etc.

Could someone describe how to access the settings via the signal stalk? I just got a 2006 550i and would like to activate the DRLs without waiting a month for the dealer to do it. Although the car was manufactured in 10/05 I could not find this option via iDrive.

thanks,

steve

Steve,

I don't know if it's the same as the E9x -- but if so....

Make sure the car has full acessory power but the engine is off. It can't just be radio power. Then push the little scroll control on the left stalk on the steering column. You will see a series of icons for things you can set up. Just push in the button on the end of that same stalk to make selections. You can find full details and pictures of the strange icons they use in the manual.

Actually, this is fairly easy. If you do not have your manual, you can download it from the BMW site. As eveyone is mentioning, the settings are performed from the left steering wheel stalk.

Hmm... I think mine is different than yours. The stalk has two buttons; BC (computer) and Check (produces a report of sorts). As far as I can tell from the manual the BC button is only used to cycle through the dash computer display options (average speed, average fuel consumption and range). No mention of being able to update anything in the computer itself with either of the two buttons.

I'm surprised to hear you can set these on the 3 series but not the 5 series. But, as I mentioned, I can only speak for the 3.

Many things are different (and usually more advanced) on the 5 series and among various models in general. Excuse my bluntness, but isn't this best addressed on the e60 forum?
