Hey guys,

I just on my way to grab something to eat when I was pulled over for a ticket -- 55 in a 35. Now, this was on a road (College Station with Barnett Shoals Rd. up ahead, by the Kroger) that is frequented with mild-medium traffic and 55 would seem nothing out of the ordinary. I was simply flowing with traffic and there was a Ford pickup truck in front of me and an old DeLorian behind me. The officer was waiting on motorcycle behind the entrance to an apartment complex (Polo Club/The Reserve) and turned out behind me. I immediately slowed down, but his lights went on shortly after and we both turned into a shopping center.

I'm 20 and have never had a ticket or any sort violation before. He came over and asked if there was any specific reason for my speeding, to which I replied 'I was driving with the speed of the traffic around me'. It was approx. 5:30pm tonight when it happened, and it was (noted on the ticket) daylight, medium traffic conditions, dry roads.

I honestly do not believe that I was driving 55 -- but, I don't see any way that I could prove otherwise. He stopped me and I shortly turned into the shopping center less than 50ft. ahead (something I believe I would have had trouble doing at 55mph).

Also, I don't recall seeing any signs for the 35mpg speed limit on my way over. I turned out of my University (which has many exits from a highway leading up to it) and drove down the street. On the way back I noted a 35mph sign, but that was facing the other way (I would not have seen it from the direction I was coming).

I believe that the only reason for the 35mph speed limit in this area, is that there is a middle school approx. 1 mile down the road (off of a turn mind you). However, from where I was coming I would not have seen the school lights or mph indicator and had not reached it yet at the point when I was pulled over.

Do you guys have any advice for how I should handle this?

So, you got stopped between International Drive and the Kroger shopping center? Were you coming from East Campus? I know how easy it is to do 50-60 on College Station, and wouldn't doubt that you were doing something similar.

Now, in your defense, you could've asked to see his radar, asked him when the last time it was calibrated, etc...

Sorry bud, no way to get out of this. BUT, if you are telling the truth and this is your first offense, you may be able to get it dropped to a non-moving violation if you take a defensive driving course before going to court. Other than that. Well, there is nothing other than that.

I hear clarke county is tough....my bro lived in Polo club for about a year, and I always saw police sitting there when I visited....
Since it's your 1st, go for the plea and lower the ticket..
You'll pay the fine, but still have no record.
Good Luck.

Myself and a few buddies are thinking about moving into Polo Club, what does your bro think about the place?

I have a question

Can you plea no-lo if you are under 18 for, say, a 27 mph over offense?

:( Well, I had a thread a while back, got pulled over 2 days before New Years. I was rushing to work and got caught 62 in a 35 in Gainesville. I wish I would get ri dof this teenager stupidity soon.

So yes I have been a bad boy, can I have a spanking? :devillook

:D

But, yeah, can you plea no-lo if you are under 18? What sucks is my 18th birthday is Feb. 15th, 2 days after my court date.

Awww, c'mon, man. You should know that College Station Rd. is a favorite for the cops (also mind River Rd. by the old boarded up frat houses... ask me how I know that :shifty). The speed limit drops down to 35 by the Russell building and the only real reason I can think as to why is the level of traffic and that it's easy pickin's for the cops.
My best advice is to see if you can cut a deal to get it knocked down to somethign mroe reasonable. At 20 over it may be a bit more difficult than usual.

Laying drags doesn't kill people(well, usually). Speeding does.

Care to debate? :confused

Speeding rarely kills people. Following too closely, failing to obey traffic control devices, failing to maintain lanes, improper lane changes, failing to yield the right of way, and racing kill far more people than speeding alone ever has.

speeding doesn't kill people. It is usually the spinal compression associated with the sudden stop that does.

Hmm, I think it's the reckless driving mostly commonly associated with speeding that kills people. Speeding in itself (ex. driving 80 on I-85 or GA-400) often times, is nothing out of the ordinary on most public roads.

Any more information guys?

Most of the time if somebody is doing one of the above, they are, in fact, also speeding.
