I was running 0w-40... but my car was running through it like no other... 1/2 quart a week.

I vote for getting a beater for the winter.. :) I won't be driving my M in the winter after this year.

I'm running 15w50 this winter.

My car wasn't running last month when it was really cold and snowing though. So i didn't really have to worry too much about it being to the wrong weight for the cold weather.
Next year if i don't have a daily for winter i'll be running the mobil 1 0w40 though.

Yup. 0w is perfect for winter because it flows faster cold and gets through your engine faster during initial start-up. During the summer the Amsoil 30 is awesome - it actually acts closer to a 40w oil in regards to viscosity, but it has been rated at that viscosity up to 2x SAE required temps - bottom line is it doesn't shear even under the worst conditions like if you were using it for racing. Using the lightest oil you can get away with that still protects your engine very well will permit the lowest loss of power due to parasitic drag from the weight of the oil on the crank and conn rods.

Other 'consumer' grade oils (like the Mobil 1 0w40 or 5w40) will shear under extreme conditions, and are more likely to shear as the temps get higher. Mobil 1 is awesome, it's just not as performance dedicated as others (like Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline, etc etc).

I would highly recommend reading the article 0w30 Oil in the BF.c Articles link at the top of the page. VERY awesome info, and why I started using Amsoil in the first place (and on their Preferred Customer Program).

Not sure yet... I'm considering it. Would love to but it depends on so much more than what I want to do :(
