It's a family vacation for my cousin Tasho’s wedding. Anything going on? I will be celebrating my 20th birthday on the island as well.

I should have internet at the hotel. I don't know where I'm staying, all I know is that it is near the Hilton. Going to get Eggs and Things for breakfest every morning, just like I did when I was 6 :). I'll let you guys know if I need any help with anything. Pretty overwhelmed with the posibilities right now. I dont' want to just lounge around the hotel room, I want to hike in the rain forests and things like that.

Hiking would be pretty dangerous right now as it has been really wet. If you do go, take food, water, flashlight, warm clothing and a cell phone, just in case.

i'll keep that in mind. I've done some pretty extreme hiking, like Palm Springs in July.

How cold is it getting at night? I seem to be packing tank tops jeans and short skirts mainly. Should I pack some warm stuff too?

don't overpack just buy here if you need a hoodie or something. last week it dropped to the 60's at night due to some weird weather pattern but it's shaping back up to warm balmy nights.

and yay, another hiker! don't pack Off! either, just get it here. traveling light FTW :D

I'm assuming you are staying at the Hilton in Waikiki...and I think I know what Eggs 'n Things you are talking about. I live like 30 seconds away from it and about a 2 minute walk to the Hilton.

Shoot me a PM if you get bored...I moved here a few weeks ago and am not working yet, so I have lots of free time. :)

Lol, I'm a girl, I don't pack light. I'll throw some more longsleve shirts in there. i don't know what island you are on, but could you recommend some cool places to hike near honolulu?

Wally, I'll let you know if my family drives me crazy and I need some reprive.

I'm sure I'll have a great time. Coming back-- not so great. 12 hours of plane time, ug.

Manoa Falls or Aiea Loop Trail are good places to go.

Best trails for Honolulu are

Maunawili Falls and Manana Trail

Both have very nice water falls and deep ponds which you can dive into.

Makap'u Light house has a beautiful view of Molokai and Maui. Sometimes you can see whales.

Check the site below. Good luck!

I'm on Oahu too and haven't done the Manoa Falls hike in a long time, it's been raining tonight but not pouring and with the sun the ground dries quickly. that's a big if it stops raining, if on the day you go out. The Heiau has some BIG drops so watch out LOL.

do the Diamond Head crater hike too, it has many very unusual features not found on most nature trails and a short hop from Waiks. it's like the roller coaster ride of hiking :P for a long grind but with very remote and usually secluded beaches Kaena Pt. is good. can mt. bike it too no problem. there are tons and tons of trails and fireroads yet to discover.

hey nice link sushi! so the big deal about lepto is not to drink the water? I went in the pool at Manoa but no swimming and tried not to get it in my eyes. I need to learn more about lepto, symptoms and cures I guess, if going in the waters.

If you're going to do the Diamond Head hike do it 5am, part of the excitement is going through the bunkers and up the spiral staircase in pitch black.:eyecrazy

Manoa Falls is so so. short hike to a shallow pond, no real views.
Popular because it's short and very convenient.

Just remember, DO NOT hike alone or with wimps. Although its paradise, there’s still crime and the best way to avoid that is think smart. Good luck and hope you enjoy your stay!

+1 No Wimps! I like the bamboo forest part of Manoa trails that's really pretty. I forgot about the beware falling rocks in the pool too. good caveat against hiking alone, though I do it all the time, did we ever find that one guy who was missing a couple months ago?

In high school we used to go every swimming every weekend at Manoa Falls/Kapena Falls etc...We never got sick. All those places have Leptospirosis warning signs now. :(

Notice the link that I attached, the 3rd pic on the bottom. The diver is about to leap 30 feet into a pond.

I did it several times and still needed to retrieve my balls each time.

I'm in the hotel room now, we are staying in the Renaissance Iliki (spelling? Lol.). Great veiw, but the are freaking charging for internet access, what a jip. My sister is hilarious, she can't understand that we are on the island of Oahu, the city of Honolulu, and the beach of Wikiki. :rofl We don't have the picture perfect view of the cresent beach with the hotels, but we have a nice view none the less.

I'll be hiking with my dad and maybe my sister. My dad is a hardcore hiker. Been to the top of Mt. Lassen in CA. I hope the weather holds, it looks like its going to rain again.

Lauren - Just be prepared for emergencies when you go hiking. Lots of people have gotten stranded so make sure you have a jacket and warm clothes along with food, water, flashlight and a cell phone.

In the Ilikai, there used to be free wireless in the restaurant by the pool, Canoe's I think :dunno.

Check here for other free wifi http://www.wififreespot.com/ha.html

The local dealership has free access - the view is only of cars - no beach...
Canoe’s sound better ...
Enjoy your stay!

THere are a couple wireless signals my computer picks up, but none of them are pretty good. We are basically just trading off with my dad's computer. I think today we are seeing Pearl Harbor.
