Unluckily...I got a ticket from this hater police guy down at the strip of waikiki. He got me for not having a recon permit. Guess what he told...he said he knows M3 very well and its not that low. What an ass!! Anyway, my M3 came from Japan and brought it over here in the island. I got away with the first safety inspection but might have to get a recon permit soon. Where is this place??

I think it is still underneath the H-1 Freeway arcross from Market City Foodland. If you're coming from Aiea head east on H-1 and get off on the King street exit. Not sure of the hours.
Cheers!:D

exacto, it's on Kapahulu right under the freeway. if car has been lowered there are things you better do first before wasting a trip and having to schedule a second recon inspection:

1. recent alignment print out. Lex Brody's will do, most places don't want to touch a bmw for recon. at least that's what I found. pretty stupid IMO.

2. remove fog lights now, too low to pass. they might even be too low completely stock too. silly. just leave the spot empty, they know you will reinstall later but for the test they gotta' be gone.

3. redrill front license bracket or fashion a new "permanent" one so the bottom edge of the plate is at least 12" off the road surface. I also dremeled off the bottom edge of the plate to more fudge factor.

4. remove all clear corner type lenses. the car must have DOT stuff with reflectors and all that.

5. disable AE / DDE if you got them.

6. if suspension is adjustable set to full soft. they will do the infamous "bounce" test on the front end looking for 2" travel. or some travel at all.

7. don't give them a hard time, they just doing their job and many are car enthusiasts too. we had a good laugh at the spoiler festooned ricer that was inspected before my innocent little bmw. he had to completely remove his ground effects front end because no foam inside the bumper as is stock, plus a whole bunch of other stuff. I mean a LOT.

that's just off the top of my head. there's a checklist on the web. the good news is recon inspection is only $15 or something. bring cash only. call them first to make an appointment. GL!
