View Full Version : Took out a Civic and Prelude Yesterday
Zippylock 01-29-2006, 02:36 PM Hey Guys,
Just thought i would share some of my victories i had yesterday! The first was in the morning when a Riced out civic pulled up next to me at a light, it had and exhaust atleast (dont know what else, aparently not much..lol). He raved the crap out of his engine and kept looking at me so i just sat there silent looked at him and nodded. The light turned green and i jumped out as if he was standing still, and by the time we hit 80 (when i stopped) he had already gave up, smart since i just kept pulling form him...hehe, yes i know i should destroy a civic anyways but i still had fun, to bad he flicked me off when he drove by further down the road...
The next race was at night, it was a later model prelude again from a stoplight. I initiated that i wanted to go and witha simple glace he reved his engine (stock i think) i wasn't sure about the specs of a prelude, but i figured i had a chance, the light turned green and we took off. I pulled right off the start on him, and then he caught up a lil when as i was in the higher rpms, but we were close the whole race until about 80 again when i stopped, when i stopped i was about a 1/2 a car length infront of him slowly pulling away, so i was excited again since i thought they were decently quick cars, and then i was even more excited when instead of the finger i got the thumbs up... good way to end the night on im my opinion...
parad0x 01-29-2006, 09:18 PM Must have been the type R engine, the one putting out like 200hp
SebsBlackBimmer 01-29-2006, 09:35 PM Nice kill man! 328i for life!:buttrock ..........acutally only until I save some money and get my e36 m3 Ive always wanted.

base model preludes put out 195hp..from 97 to 98, 99 to 01 rated at 200. jdm type s 220. just to put my 2 cents in. my last car was a 98 lude. no type r's on late model prelude.
anywayz...nice kills dude. civic hatchbacks with motor swaps are nice challenges too.
eek142 01-30-2006, 12:15 AM yeah..teach them hondas a lesson..lol...for some reason i have strong contempt against honda owners (esp ricers..)..that goes for acura owners too..i dont know where it stems from. bmw ownage.:bigun2

why?
02ImolaM3 01-30-2006, 12:40 AM how do we go from this guy barely beating a stock prelude...
to the 328 vs WRX thread where people are arguing with me how a 328 with exhaust can hang right next to a WRX?
someone correct me if i am wrong.....what does a 328 run? I have seen most times around 14.8-15.0. about what a prelude runs...ok
but a WRX runs a 14.0-14.2.......someone please enlighten me whats going on in the 328 vs. WRX thread toward the end!!!!!!!!!

who was talking about this?...dont thread jack. but to inform you...i raced my buddies wrx. he beat me stock for stock(with his up-pipe and down pipe tho).
kennejp 01-30-2006, 01:58 AM Good kill- those preludes can be quick when done right.
giterdone 01-30-2006, 03:32 AM no type r in preludes. Only various SI engines.
In the 92-96 lude was 4th Generation (my personal favorite body style) they had S, SI and SI Vtec engines.
S was SOHC 140hp/tq engine. SI was DOHC 160hp/tq engine, and SI Vtec was DOHC 190hp/150tq. S and SI Vtec were 2.2L engines and SI was 2.3L.
The 97-01 (I think was last year) was the 5th Generation all came with the Vtec engines. They were rated frm 190-200, depending what stats you read. The Type SH (different wheels, and came with front lip..maybe rear) was also listed as having 5 more hp. But that was disputed by different people, whether it really did.
The 92-96 SI Vtec is actually quicker than the 97-01 Vtec ones, even though same power specs, they were lighter. The Type SH is actually slower than the regular 97-01 due to the extra weight from the body mods.
They are quite capable cars, but their biggest downfall is FWD. My buddy (JustXtreme on here) has a 98 Prelude SH, and our other friend Vio has a 99 M3. Travis (Vio) used to have a 96 328i. They raced multiple times. The cars were about even and 3rd gear would come, and the 328 would take the cake. Travis didn't like launching his car, so even down low they were roughly even. Aside from launch factor though, through 1st and 2nd, the vehicles were consistent. But 3rd gear is way too tall for the Preludes.
I would think a 328 could hang easily with a WRX. But in a 1/4, the WRX has the launch advantage of AWD, but on the highway, I don't see why it couldn't hang. WRX's aren't all that great. But I'll take this into that thread.
Vbp6us 01-30-2006, 04:53 PM I can't help but laugh when people call Preludes quick or potentially quick. :D
kennejp 01-30-2006, 10:00 PM Well how are they not quick when they have 195hp and my buddy has one and when we both were stock he only lost to me by about a car length many times to about 80 or so. So I dont know why you would laugh because tuned right they are very fast and make big HP for 4 cylinder engines
kennejp 01-30-2006, 10:02 PM *By tuned I mean modified*
xtremsiege2 01-30-2006, 10:40 PM yes they are no srt4 or e36 m3, but then i guess your also laughing at everyone who drives a 318, 323, 325 and holding back at the 328 because it won this time. Fwd is big disadvantage but every honda owner already knows this..i would really like to see the 2 cars stock for stock, i know in qtr mile times the 328 is slightly faster. I saw an old friend who bought a dinan 328i a couple months ago and didnt get to race him really because he took off way early at a stopsign and i cant hit 3rd gear because it grinds, i wish hondas came with stronger transmissions lol. It seemed quick and probably wouldve pulled on me(software, exhaust, intake, something else) ill post if i ever run into him again
giterdone 01-31-2006, 02:36 AM Preludes are quick. Normally I don't mind when somebody bashes on jap cars, but I happen to be a fan of the prelude.
I had a S model 4th Gen, it wasn't quick, but it was a great car. I loved that thing. Handled great, was a great first car, and took everything me and my friends through at it (trust me, that is commendable enough). All I did was gas up and change the oil every 3k miles (didn't, even check inbetween changes).
The cars have serious potential to be N/A threats, at least if you get the VTEC engines. They aren't good candidates for turbo, due to high compression (remind you of any german cars we know? ) But the vehicles are great cars in their tier and they handle great.
98///M3 01-31-2006, 02:51 AM true on the NA threats but i would have to disagree on the whole not being candidates turbocharged, cuz u can make alot of power out of those little things...the thing that they have a problem with is traction usually!

I'm saying like the JDM Vtec one. Many guys get that, because it starts with 220chp, and they wnat to turbo, but it isn't the best platform. Andy on teh boards knows alot more than me about preludes.
The better candidate I believe is the SI 2.3L nonvtec one. But any engine you can make suitable for the turbos, just some are better than others.
98///M3 01-31-2006, 04:44 AM o ok, thanks for clearing that up for me
giterdone 01-31-2006, 07:54 AM o ok, thanks for clearing that up for me
no problem. But I am by no means an expert on ludes. I know a decent amoutn of info, but don't keep up enough with them. Andy (hangs out in MAR and here) is very knowledgeable. I haven't seen him in here lately, normally he would be all over apost involving a Prelude (or any honda with an H22 swap :))
If you ever want to find out more info about them, he is the guy to talk to.

Who, me???:embarrasm :stickoutt :D
I do believe stock vs stock, the 328 would edge out the Prelude, but not by much. The way the creator of this thread described it, that's how I would've guessed the race would end up.:)
I raced a modded 5th gen when I was in my 4th Gen VTEC. He was ricing around in traffic so I figured I would mess with him, espcially since we were getting off a busy highway onto a not-so busy highway. From 60-110, I put approx. 2.5-3CL on him.
