Took my intake manifold and valley pan off this weekend to fix a coolant leak. I'm using the BMW TIS software and they don't give the tightening torque specs for the valleypan or throttle body? Can anybody out there send me the torque specs for a 2000 540i/6 or point me to a website that has all the specs if it exists?
Thanks,
Ken

If you have the ETK cd uploaded, it is on that. I haven't used it in a while, but you had to go through a couple menus to get to it. Sorry.

I do have it, just haven't been able to find it. I'll try again, thanks for the tip.

Any idea where the torque specs are in the ETK?

I just did the same thing to mine, i did 10 ft. lbs the first time on the valley pan, then went around and hit them at 15. It is leak free so far, seemed like a good number to go with. I dont think bmw specifies for the valley pan. only specs i could find for the whole project was for the intake manifold which was like 22 or something.

Yeah that's basically what I found but it was in NM not FT. LBS. Did you do any special prep to the block before you put the new valley pan in? I just lightly cleaned it with a razor blade. I heard that it should be cleaned with fine grit sandpaper.

i spent a lot of time preping all the surfaces that had to seal. valley pan, rear crossover, intake manifold. cleaned them off with paper towls/simple green, then hit them with some 1500 grit sandpaper. they were all shiney when i was done. I also cleaned up everywhere around them so it would be obvious when i checked for leaks in the future. my thread about it has a link to a great writeup on doing the valleypan and throttle body.

Thanks, that's the link I'd been using. I'm just paranoid about over torquing the bolts. I'll clean it all up good before I re-install everything.
Thanks for the help.
