View Full Version : Hood paintjob$$$
sweet poison 01-28-2006, 05:40 PM Well, I knew this day would come once. Somebody keyed my hood, and the scratches are all the way across the hood. It looks to deep, so I dont think a scratch paste would help any. I have full insurance on it, I think it should be covered under comprehensive, where I have a $100 deductable. I was wondering do you guys know approx. how much it would cost do repaint the whole hood of an E39 540i>
Tx, Ivana
gota525i 01-28-2006, 06:24 PM The stealership wanted $500 for repainting my hood while a reputable local paint shop wanted $475. This was for an E34 though.
Ubertino 01-28-2006, 06:33 PM Sorry to hear it Ivana! I would talk to Hansens on the East Beltline. Mark is the guy there, and they do some pretty good work.
Why the hell did somebody key your hood?!?
Depending on the color you might also need to blend the paint, meaning you will have to get tops of both fenders painted in order to make color of your hood match. Unless your car is black, this case it might be not necessary, therefore cheaper. I had estimate to repaint my hood due to some roadchips for ~$400 with blenging both fenders, however I ended up with good touch up.
autophile 01-29-2006, 05:33 AM Sorry to hear about your hood.
Keep us posted on how you get it taken care of.
sweet poison 01-30-2006, 12:18 PM Tx guys I will go and get an estimate prob. tomorrow. I also just saw that the keyed my trunk across too :redspot , great I think I will kill somebody :mad . Mish my car is black, but the cratches seem pretty deep:( . So I will see tomorrow. I think I will claim it all on insurance, bc I need to claim my broken windshield anyways (it would cost me $550 to replace just that, bc it is rain sensored). I will take some pics later on so you guys can see the artwork of scratches. I am just wondering if I need to do a police report if I am going to claim it on ins.?
Thanks, Ivana
760list 01-30-2006, 01:44 PM I think it was the same person that did your cd player trim....grrrr....
I would just claim insurance on it and get it painted nice at a good place. Color matching can be tough. I'm really upset to hear that someone was so immature to do something like that. Did it happen at school or when did you notice it?
sorry to hear about the hood and trunk. Most insurance companies like to have a police report on file. Actually, if it's claimed as a vandalism, most REQUIRE a police report. You might as well do it.. you can always try calling it in too, and just ask for a report number to give to you insurance.
autophile 01-30-2006, 04:43 PM I recently had a rear window broken. The police took a report over the phone and gave me a report #, which I gave to my ins. co. - all covered under my comprehensive coverage.
Good luck Ivana!
Had the same thing happen to my black 2000 540.
Hood and trunk scratched when the car was vandalized.
The good news is the black is an easy match. German black has a few drops of brown it in. They painted my hood and didn't have to blend it into the front fenders.
A good repair shop should be able to do the same thing. My trunk lid was wet sanded/buffed and it took the scratch out.
Total was 1500 but it was done right.
Good luck!
sweet poison 01-30-2006, 06:32 PM the guys gave me the idea to get a cf hood and trunk instead of repainting it, So if I find a shop that will play with me and the ins, I could make an estimate for repainting it, and use the ins check to get the cf. Hopefully it works out. Mine is a 2002 540i, black, i just got it wet sanded 5 months ago, it looked soooo sharp, and now this s*** happened, I was soo mad when I saw the scratches. My deductable is only $100 on comprehensive, thats good, but I dont know if the insurance will go up much? Did yours go up? Also my windshield cracked the other day, a stone hit it on the highway, you think I could claim all under one, or would it have to be separate claims. My uncle told me I should just tell the police officer that the guys that scratched my car also threw a stone at my widshield as well and cracked it? Do you think that would work ? :dunno
Thanks
autophile 01-31-2006, 03:49 AM I've been told by Liberty Mutual that multiple claims on comprehensive coverage won't effect my rates. So claim away. The highway stone / cracked windshield should be covered under comprehensive as well.
If your deductible is only $100, it won't be too bad if they don't buy the story about the kid with a rock. They may want pics, mine did eventually (when they were evaluating my claim of a damaged speaker - totally legit).
TireFryer 01-31-2006, 09:07 AM I don't know what is out there for E39 CF hoods, but this is what I got with a quick search:
