Hey fellas,

I just got my car a month ago, and it's time to make her shine (she's been a little neglected). The major concerns I have is that the car was painted before, and for some reason the inside area on the side mirrors (where the holes are) are coarse and have hence accumulated some dirt that's impossible to scrub out. I also have a few nicks and scratches that I'm fairly sure a good waxing would take care of.

My question is... if you all could recommend what I should be looking for in doing some sort of a first time treatement.. for example, cleaning wax, followed by another wax, etc. Moreover, I would really appreciate it if anyone had suggestions for a good place I have have the work done in atlanta. I just don't want to take it to the local car wash because I know I'll get my car back with all my moldings/rubber peices smeered! I'll be sure to post some pics of her when it's done.

She's Dakar. Thanks in advance for your help!! :alright

If the nicks/scratches you have can be felt with your fingernail, no wax is going to hide it. Smaller scratches can be somewhat hidden, or you could have them removed with an abrassive polish. First of all I'd be very careful who you take the car to. Many "professionals" will simplay use heavy duty glazes to fill in any imperfections on your car. Seems cool at first but after washing your car once or twice the oils are removed and all your scratches are back, plus you got to pay them for their work. Talk to where ever you bring it and ask exactly what their process is. If possible even find out what products they will be using a why. I've heard way too many horror stories from "professional" detailers and body shops to ever step foot in one without a rock solid game plan.

I know of a mobile guy from a detailing forum who does killer work. He's the farthest thing from a crappy el-cheapo car wash detailer. He only uses "botique" products like the stuff you buy from Autogeek and is really professional in his business and the quality of his work. I'll PM you with his info if you're interested.
