I've probably been on a half dozen whale watches, both out of Kona and Ma'alaea.... besides the first one, all have been with visitors.

Are whale watches popular on Oahu?

They are thick now. I can watch them from my living room (of course they are a mile away!!)

It depends on where you go out of and what boat you take. Out of Oahu on a dinner cruise = not so good. Out of Maui on a zodiak = good. Out on our boat off of Sandy's a few weekends ago = best. :D

When is the whale season ending?

I am in San Diego but am coming back towards the end of Feb. Will I still be able to take a trip to Maui and see some whales????

No doubt... April and beyond it gets sketchy.

Bookwith the right operations and if you don't see any whales, they refund your money. The thing is, the whale could be a half mile away. :(

Are you serious! Seeing a whale 1/2 mile away counts? Do they issue you binoculars? :mad

Anna and I usually hit Maui in March and there are still whales to be seen. We'll probably try to get on a ww cruise one of these days. We did a sailboat cruise in Kona and it was spectacular...esp. compared to the catamaran cruises on Oahu.

I see them every now and then on my way home or early mornings as I drive pass the Blow Hole. I just don't see the attraction....it's just a big fish! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNfox000' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_5_21.gif' alt='Whale' border=0></a>

I have seen plenty of whales off the coastline here on the Big Island.
