i want to clean the M pattern stitching on my steering wheel. anyone have any luck with this, if so how and with what did you use?

I've had goodluck with Meguiar's All purpose cleaner. It really brightens up the stitching and makes it look new again! I would assume any APC would work, just make sure to test it first before using it all over the stitching.

I used one of those as-seen-on-TV cleaners called Quick N' Brite, but I would think that any general cleaner would work (that is also safe on leather). I applied the cleaner on a damp cloth and wrapped the cloth around the stitching. Then squeeze and twist the cloth around the stitching, but not enough to actually cause the cloth to rub/move against the stitching. Then blot dry with a clean cloth/towel. Repeat.

I would say, just some gentle dish detergent and a damp cloth would probably work.
