View Full Version : E30 325is Vs. Nissan Sentra SE-R spec V
motorworksE30 01-24-2006, 06:19 PM So my girlfriend's dad has a 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, and she's thinks it's the greatest car out there. She was always ragging on me about how I spend too much time and money on my 89 BMW. I kept telling her that BMW is the ultimate driving machine, but she kept ragging on my ride. She say's it's slow, looks like crap, and is unreliable. I've completely rebuilt my engine, trans, steering, and syspention systems. I've lowered my car ~2in, sport exhaust, short shifter, and CAI.
One afternoon we met for lunch and she was driving her dads sentra. Perfect opportunity I thought. After lunch we're about to get on the freeway, and there are two lanes that turn left to get onto the onramp and we're stuck at a red light. I'm on the outmost right lane and she has the inside lane. I signal for her to roll down her window and yell "Wana race? I'll put you in your place. First to 100 wins." She agree's and the light turns green, I pound the gas, and shift at 6K in first. (I really couldn't afford the crap she would give me if I lost this race.) After the onramp straitens out she pulls ahead by half a car length and I have to break to get behind her because the ramp goes down to one lane. I ride her tail as close as I could and as we get on the freeway and I get into the second lane and ever so slowly pass past her. We're going about 70 and she looks over at me when we're side-by-side and it looks like she just about **** a brick. After 70 is when I really started to pull on her. (It's real nice to have 6 cylinders compared to 4.) I get to 100 first about half a car length ahead, and slow back to the speed limit.
Since then she has never ragged on my ride or criticized me for giving her (the car) the attention I do, and she's realized that Nissan isn't that great of a car either.
Captain 01-24-2006, 06:38 PM Glad to hear it. You prooved your point and made her forget hers...awesome! Congrats.

Zen S14 01-24-2006, 07:22 PM Sentra SE-R has got to be the worst of the Nissan "performance" car out right now. Misplaced pride in a newer car I guess. Congrats on your win.

Besides the SE-R and 350z, wat other "performance" car is there to buy in the US right now at Nissan?

Nothing unfortunately, but I count infiniti as nissans too and they have the G35. The Altima SE-R is pretty sad too. 350z is holding the torch but it could use a bit of a diet.
StealthM2O 01-24-2006, 08:47 PM Nice Kill!, .... however with a six spd tranny she shoulda walked you.......

NHbmw325I 01-24-2006, 09:36 PM yeah the 6 speed ones aren't too bad, a guy that graduated same year as me, has the 6 speed spec V one.
motorworksE30 01-24-2006, 11:17 PM congrats on beating a girl with a Nissan you must feel like a big tough man :D i keed i keed goodshit keep her in place :D
Yeah it's a girl, but I've driven the car, and I still think mines faster. Even if it was a different driver I think I would've won. She thinks she's a good driver, and I know she's not the best. If she has confidence in her driving (which she does,) then it makes my win make BMW seem even better. A guy definitely would have made a better opponent, he may have even won, but that's not the main point. The main point is now she understands that BMW is the best because I was able to beat her in a 17 year old car when she was in a 1 year old car that she thought was the best. Now she doesn't rag on my ride or the respect and attention I give it. I didn't consider beating her in a race a kill. I consider the race killing her respect for Nissan and I brought her to the light of the wonderful world of BMW.

That's the best dang idea I've heard, I'll need to have a rematch sometime then.
Steiner 01-25-2006, 12:10 AM I used to have an '02 Spec V. Fun car but the tranny is geared so horribly to the engine's power curve it's like a Japanese practical joke. Some old fart made an illegal turn, t-boned my car and totalled it. Those side airbags saved me a trip to the hospital though.
hellrot Ofl 01-25-2006, 12:23 AM those spec-v SE-R's are not that great. The classic SE-R's are where its at. With just a few mods, they can turn into a fast litlle grocery-getter. Spectacular kill my friend.

haha, since when is bmw the best?
The HACK 01-25-2006, 01:09 AM Besides the SE-R and 350z, wat other "performance" car is there to buy in the US right now at Nissan?
Maxima SE with the VQ engine and a 6 speed does 60 in 6.2. The Altima SE-R with the same VQ engine does 60 in 6.0 flat. If you want to include "Infiniti" as part of Nissan (which they are), the G35, M45, and FX series SUV all run sub 6 second to mid 6 second 0-60 times.
Think of Nissan as the Japanese equivalent of BMW...Nissan's performance heritage is quite distinguished.
giterdone 01-26-2006, 01:38 AM BMW is the best? :confused
Nissan is proven when it comes to performance, just not the Sentra....they blow. The six speed isn't even all that good, the gearing like Steiner said, is mismatched for the car. It was like they had extra trannys laying around and just decided to sell them in the car, as a marketing gimmick, knowing dumbasses would pay the extra money to say "OMG!11!! I h@v3 a s!x Sp33d!!11!1! Who cares if it is only 185 hp, it is s6x Sp33d!11one!1!1oneone!!!
chewietobbacca 01-26-2006, 01:59 AM I think Honda is more the Japanese equivalent of BMW... F1 racing heritage and high output high revving N/A engines...
That being said, Nissan hasn't brought over its top of the line performance car to the U.S. in decades
calvin d 01-26-2006, 08:47 AM I know a guy who had a 6-speed spec-V and wanted to race me in the E-30 M3. I had no idea what they could do. We never got a chance because he crashed it. Then he went and got an SRT 4 and modded the hell out of it. I'm not messing with him!
cerealkiller93 01-26-2006, 12:38 PM haha, since when is bmw the best?
Always has been, don't argue. :alright :round

+1 to honda..
Honda hasn't brought over its top of the line performance cars either... Integra Type-R hasnt been seen here since 2001. "But RSX replaced Integra!!" Only in America my friend, its still called Integra over seas.
I also dont believe nissan has ever released their top of the line performance car in the U.S. The skyline has been out since the 50's... So... yah. (it wasnt a "performance" car until the 70s.... )

thats good, i say he breaks it with in a 1-3 years. ( blows the engine, turbo, something expensive will break) Why? because its dodge trying to copy the japanese, I'm sure these cars will end up having reliabilty issues before its all over with.
