View Full Version : Finally got around to washing/claying/polishing/sealing my car...
TriHFH 01-22-2006, 10:26 PM Well, after a long 6+ hours, I finally finished claying/polishing/pre-sealing/sealing my car... I used Mother's clay bar w/ Mother's Instant Detailer, 3M Finesse-It II polish, Klasse AIO, and Klasse SG (with a Porter Cable orbital buffer). I'm really relieved now, because I've been putting this whole thing off for a few months now :shifty
Anyways, by the time I finished it was nearly dark so the pictures I took really don't do it justice... maybe i'll snap some more pics tomorrow in the daylight :)

Those are the same exact products that I used and my car came out beautifully. I've already put 3 coats of SG on and waited at least 24 hours between each coat and washed the car every time beforehand. Now I'm fust looking forward to my next wash so I can finally try out the S100 that I bought. I can't imagine the shine getting any better, but we'll see.
TriHFH, what pad or pads did you end up using. I started with the least abrasive (polishing) and worked my way up to light cutting and then cutting in some areas. Now there is virtually no hairline scratch on my car. I used a high powered halogen light to check my progress. Needless to say, it was a very time consuming process, but it sure paid off in the end
Do you plan on applying a layer of wax over the SG? How many coats of SG are you going to apply?
btw, don't forget to address those wax or polish stains on your black moldings.
SaamS 01-23-2006, 11:27 PM God those pictures look great. my car is in dire need of a detailing. But I am personally to fearful to do it myself. I am afraid I might foul up the whole process. Can you recommend anyone or anywhere to take my car? whats up with the concord meet?

Well, I didn't have enough time to order the exact pads I needed, so I ended up just using the pad that came with the Porter Cable buffer :nono . I know it's not reccomended, but this weekend was the only free time I had, so I had to work with it. In the end it turned out pretty well, although there still are some swirl marks on certain areas of the car.
Yep I'm gonna apply a layer of wax over the SG after I do 3 coats of SG. :D
lol thanks for the tip on the moldings, I haven't had a chance to order Forever Black yet, so I just did a quick job w/ Mother's Back to Black

I know there is a good professional detailing place in Lafayette, I drive by and see them detailing cars every day. I'd like to know more about the Concord meet too... if you get any info, let me know ;) .
Just so you know though, It'd be hard to foul anything up. Just read the sticky at the top of this forum and you'll know exactly how to do everything. I followed it almost exactly and it turned out fine :D .
TriHFH 01-24-2006, 02:39 AM I realize this is an excessive amount of pictures... But whatever, I took some more pictures at night under some lights. It's hard not to make Estoril look like purple at night lol :confused

Yeah, I also heard that some people wouldn't use the white polishing pad that comes with the PC. Although I didn't use it for the whole car, I did have to use it when my backing plate came apart. I saw no problem with using it.
I would recommend getting the 4' spot buff pads. I find that the 6' pads are just too big to use on our cars due to the amount of black moldings and trim throughout the car. Don't be afraid to use the yellow cutting pad with the FI. Thats what I used and there isn't a swirl anywhere on the car. Just remember that to get optimum results several passes may be needed and you need to move the PC very slowly and apply mild to medium pressure. I also ordered the harsher 3M Perfect It II, but I didn't have to use it since the FI2 gave me the results I was looking for.

seonadancing 01-25-2006, 11:27 AM Nice. I hope it doesn't rain or snow there. That pic with the rainbow could mean that it just rained? =)
MJFX328 01-25-2006, 03:33 PM Sexy car and Sexy camera. The only thing I hate about detailing is how long it takes to do. I rarely have time off work and school to do it, but man, Good job!
tEckniks 01-26-2006, 03:17 AM looks great.. you should try LC pads .. detailed 15+ cars and still going strong
MP525i 01-30-2006, 02:04 PM good job on the detail man! estroil looks really fine all shined up. :D

Plucas8916 02-02-2006, 02:01 PM That looks awesome.. I wish I could do something like that.. but until I get a car cover it would go to waste that night, as it is I have to pop my hood to get my cat to stay off of it (engine heat/cold night)... still it jumps into the engine and sits right on the block, under the popped hood. And during the day if the garage door is open it will sit on the trunk......
stupid cat.
Andy S. 02-06-2006, 06:38 PM Looks great! EB is a great color, especially when it's properly cared for.
