while driving on the highway.. going about 70 mph or so, i look in my rear view mirror and i see a blue c6 vette weave in and out of traffic, and he is quickly accelerating to me.. i drop into 4th, and when he gets close to next to me, i gunned it, shifted to 5th and had about a half car length on him, and he let off when i was around 110 mph..
then out of no where an orange 350z came and i kept on it, and he was trying to catch up, i let off and let him pass, he hit the brakes a few times to signal the run, i didnt go on it, we had just passed a cop on the other side of the highway.. after about 1/2 a mile, back in 4th gear at about 80, i passed him, and he quickly followed, and we were off, and we kept going to about 110 mph and he couldnt catch me.. stayed 1 car length or 1/2 a car length behind me
i then saw my exit coming up and slowed down, and he kept going..

not exactly runs from a stop and go, but it was a fun couple runs from 80-110

i only have exhaust.

That sounds about right. Corvettes are pretty decent, but the Bimmers were designed for the Autobahn and they take most anything above 100mph. Sounds like a driver's race.:)

so you were ahead of a c6 corvette :lol i dont even believe your race with the 350z, so how is it even conceivable that your 240 hp could keep up with a vette that weighs the same as an e36 m3 and has 400 hp. obviously he was in 6th gear the entire time.

regardless, its laughable that you think your race with the vette is normal. there is no race, road track or street race, in which a stock e36 m3 is anywhere near a c6 vette, the vette will spank it silly.

Dude, you raced a C4. A C6 would destory your car in every which way you look at it, even if he was just cruising with traffic flow.

They're mid 12 second cars with traps ranging from 112-113mph ... you're not gonna keep up, period. The guy could've just mashed it in 6th gear and still left you behind. We're talking ~12-13mph difference in trap speeds, do you realize just how much of a gap that is between the two cars in question?

Shoot, even a C5 would kill your car at those speeds, let alone a C6. This is what most people don't realize about the Vette's and their capabilities. An E36 M3 may be able to keep up a bit in the lower gears, but Vette's are simply incredible above 90mph. People don't realize how nice they pull up top, I used to own one, trust me, I KNOW.

True, BMW's are designed to be stable at those speeds. But just b/c it is able to go that fast, doesn't mean it's going to get there faster than a C6.

FYI, my E36 coupe weighs 3175, 2700 would only happen if it's been gutted to nothing.
And 30 hp with just changing the exhaust? dunno what but dyno you got on... but European car didn't net much over 5hp and 5tq with most aftermarket exhausts they tested on the E36 M3.

thats a 3 liter vs a 6 liter and I think the corvette weights less than the e36 m3. He probably just forgot he could downshift.

how can anybody honestly think a stock e36 m3 will be anywhere NEAR a c6. its astonishing, the c6 has 160 hp and 160 tq on the m3, weighs the same, has better gearing, better aerodynamics, better everything. an e46 m3 wont be anywhere near a c6, or a c5 for that matter.

I car was 2940 pounds after i took out the spare tire, the mat in the back, some instalation all throughout the car, and trunk and hood heat sheild or whatever that stuff is.
I weighed it on a local gravle scale that is used everyday and tested for eccuracy often.
