So if I were to weld a flat sheet of steel to the top of the strut tower on my e30, and redrill it to allow the strut to sit further out (closer to the fender) would that be legal in SCCA SM? It's either that or change the body of the strut, which I don't really want to do. I'd also like to do this so that I can use E36 camber plates and E46 control arms since I have extra sets of both lying around.

I would think its probably not allowed as it would be relocating a suspension mounting pont.
"Suspension components are unrestricted as long as they use the original attachment points. ........ In addition, shock absorber/strut upper mounts are to be considered suspension components."

Ground Control makes struts for legally doing exactly what you are talking about, but they are not on their website.

Wow Jay, using the third person now? :stickoutt
What kind of pricing would I be looking at? I can make them myself, but not knowing the exact measurements would make things tricky.

Do the rules say only GC?
No, the rules don't say just GC.
The rules are online. Go to www.scca.com.

E46 CAs are longer (front to back) and wider (inner balljoint to outer balljoint) than the E36/E30 arms, so they wouldn't be legal, either, would they?

Any arms are fine as long as the mounting points stay the same. So bumping the center mount on the strut out would be legal. But my question was about taking the legal ovaling of the holes to a next step.
