View Full Version : E30 v E36 vE39 540
Last night, right after I drove beside a COp for ten city blocks, out of nowhere I was abruptly antagonized by an excited E39 with no badge and right behind him was a 2001 540. They must have been dancing just before they caught up to me and both very enthusiastic with their approach. Not half a block up we all hit a red light. Perfect. With the E36 beside me and the 5-series right behind. I eagerly await for the light change and give it to her, ripping through first gear and poundinding through second. At this point already E36 gives up. I must say, in all the excitement I got carried away and kept pushing until in no time started to loose grip and fish tailing ahead on the unmentioned wet road. The two kept their distance for only a moment as I gained control and lead the pack, switching lanes hoping the 540 would vaporize. But to my disapointment wanted to cruise along with me through the notorios speed trap.
The best way to win a race is scare the **** out of you're opponent.

So where was this E36 you speak of? Nice first post, did you sign up just to tell us about it? :stickoutt
I have many stories and finally found a vent for them, I suppose. My car is almost 20 years old and can't exctly race the new kid. My car attracts the Integras.
giterdone 01-20-2006, 06:15 AM i can understand you staying ahead of a 3 series, perhaps if it was a 325/323 or 318. Your car is lighter. But how did you stay ahead of teh 540?
It probably was a smaller 3 Series.
Once the E36 was out of the way, I had switched lanes to allow the 5-series to approach in the passing lane(express). He didn't do much but stick along my side and vise-versa. Creating a sort of formation, with me and the other guy as well once the road opened up.

oh okay, so he probably could've passed you, but chose to just get near you. I see. :)
I had expected the 540 to "vaporize" leaving me behind.
Is there some universal understanding of when to start racing another car when already travelling exactly parallel and nose nose to nose at a moderate speed. When I glanced over @ the car the windows were tinted to dark to see anyone so I tried taughting him a little. But nothing. The car should have mad me look stupid but chose not to. He was probaly looking for an Audi or Mouse-stang KILL.
AzNaLaN15 01-20-2006, 09:24 PM he didnt wanna waste gas =p
It's a demographic you don't understand when someone choses to drive a V8 540 they don't worry about things like Gas. That's "Pay As You Go - GHETTO!
My car set the trend and you ride it.
AzNaLaN15 01-20-2006, 10:47 PM having a v8 540 doesnt really mean u can piss away money =/
I didn't mean to be so broad with that statement. Do I always have to speak for all of mankind. OK, BMW does own most of it's drivers. Where I am eighty percent of BMW are leased and driven around like Cadys, lacking in use of their performance.
I don't get retarded every a Bimmer pulls up beside me. I can't. So, in the early hours of the morning anyone who is in a small flet of Bimmmers should want to take the opportunity to do something.
If any Riceronni; gino in a ricerocket, showed up, they better have insurance and a pacemaker. I don't care how old you are.

we still haven't figured out the answer to your question.
We agree with your statement, we've come to teh conclusion, the 540 just wanted to have a running partner.
hwl328is 01-26-2006, 02:29 AM i agree with giterdone, the 540i was just playing with you. i know when i race cars that i know im going to beat, ill let them gun it, get ahead, then start to hit the gas, giving them a false impression that they might win..:devillook
either way, its fun to run against cars, and i always love bimmer on bimmer action.
