9/9/02 - 9/10/02. Ok, I know I should've been done by now but I was lagging on some areas where I got lost and had to remove some parts and had to work on other vehicles.

New engine has been placed on table and transmission is bolted to the block.

Picture shows after I added AC compressor, PS Pump, and drive belts.

Since I had no one helping me for the installation of the new exhaust. I had to use my tool cart and lower vehicle to install it. Really time consuming!

Last pic.

The exhaust is slightly lower on the right hand side but I didnt have deep socket with me to adjust/install the exhaust hangers.

Hopefully will fire up the engine tomorrow morning and reset adaptations on both DME and SMG control units.

NICE exhaust and pic's.
Where does the oil cooler go?
Do you need tranny mounts with SMG?

The oil cooler is behind the radiator right on the bottom.

All transmissions have mounts on them where they are joined to the transmission cross brace. The OEM ones look like the stock E36 M3.

Thanks Jon. I can't believe BMW used similar tranny mount as the E36 ones. They look like they were designed to flex.:95

Jon, have you come across anything that you suspect could be tracking how many Launch Controls we have done?

NVH= Noise, Vibration, Harshness

Some pansies probably complained about the noise from the transmission. Believe it or not, you can hear the transmission shifting and internal gear noise much better if the mounts are stiffer.

Nice pics. That car isn't even dirty, yet!! I missed why--why are you replacing the engine on an 02 M3 already? Grenade? How?

dallasbboy - I'll try and talk to the warranty administrator and see if he can give me the answer.

James - #3 connecting rod bearing spun.

I'm failure #73 on Jason's E46 M3 S54 engine failure website.

Ouch!! I checked out the website on all the engine failures. I would also bet that the 91mm stroke is too long for the rod length. What is the end-to-end length of the rods? The ratio should be at least 1.6:1 from what I've read.

I was feeling bad for youn until I realized the engine is covered under warantee. So you're a BMW Tech. You're replacing your own engine, right? Does this mean that you're getting paid to fix your own car?!?!? :eyecrazy:
