hey everyone, looking for a local sale if possible, thinking of selling my 1993 E36 325is schwartz 2 (black on black) 5-speed, clean title. It has 101k on the ticker with a rebuilt engine 25k ago by previous owner (who moneyshifted to the best of my knowledge). runs strong. as you might be able to tell from the pics, the paint is in great condition. the car has rarely been driven in winter and was stored for a period of 2 years by the previous owner. as for the interior, seats and carpet are good condition, but there is a common door panel bubble on the passenger side (see pic). also the speaker ring is cracked. small little things if you ask me.

more details:
-comes with sport package
-comes with cold weather package (which includes LSD for pretraction control 93's)

things i have done since i got it, i've owned it since nov 2003:
-new bmw waterpump
-new hoses
-new belts
-new t-stat
-aluminum t-stat housing
-added aftermarket watertemp gauge
-fan delete (still have fan and clutch)
-replaced dead aux fan, wired switch into cabin, turn it on when you see the aftermarket temp gauge rising.
-have a new pair of wheel well liners waiting to go on too for new buyer. $80 total from stealership.

mods that i could sell with car or remove and sell seperate, i'd honestly just like someone to buy the car with mods, much easier.

-17" M3 staggered contour rims with bridgestone s-03s, probably a season or two left in rears. CAUTION: not snow tires, do not buy this car and drive it in snow with these tires, i couldn't even get out of a flat driveway....best tires i have ever owned, great performace.

-Turnermotorsport performance chip. pretty much the standard in chips, nothing really needs to be said, except TMS has great service.

-cosmos CAI (have the stock airbox too). i have the k/n cleaner kit too, and i could clean the filter good before sale or give the kit and the buyer could do it. you could always buy a new filter for like $40 and i'd drop that off the price.

-brand new set of eibach pro-kit springs to be installed. would go great with some koni yellows or bilsteins.

things the buyer should do at some point (all older cars have maintanence work bear in mind)

-complete the rest of the inspection 2 that i didn't do: diff fluids, brake fluids, tranny fluids, plugs, etc.

-buy an underpanel. JTD is a good aftermarket one. you can run the car without it but your engine gets dirty faster.

i'll edit this post if i think of other stuff, got most of the details.

here are some pics:

price, this is sorta the feeler in this one, I'm thinking $5900OBO. nothing set in stone. please contact me for more info or post here. thanks!

car is being stored currently on the west side of town, battery on a float charger.

No, no snow.

Probably the next time I will go through Madison will be for the Chicago Auto Show. Not having class on Friday and Monday rules. I will leave for home Thursday night and head back Monday.

Still unsure of the day I am going though. See the parked thread at the top.

hey sergei, how is life treating ya? i'll have to make a mental note of your new username.

there are a few reasons that got me headed down this road:
1)love the older bmw's, and want to branch out my engine/chassis hand's on knowledge. I got a good deal on the E21 in my sig pic and it is auto-x ready. this is weight reduced to 2005lbs. the M10 engine fascinates me. when i sell my E36, I plan on going turbo with it.

2)the E36 was becoming a paradox for me; I wanted to spend more money on power and performance BUT i drove it too fast as it was, probably because of the way you really have to run out the engine to make the M50 feel fast. I wanted to drop a grand into new perfomance suspension parts BUT i hate how the car feels on the crappy repatched uneven excuses for roads you find around the madison area.

3)either bmw would be my winter/nice weather car, and I feel the E36 is still a great daily driver for someone, meaning someone could get more day to day use out of the car than me. that's what these cars like anyways, not sitting in a garage, right?

a local area sell to a cool person getting into bmws would be perfect IMHO, because i can still see the car at meets, and i can offer my aquired knowledge of the E36.

edit: and the chip?

rob i'd sell you both for a little under the going rate for used cosmos and used TMS chip but i'm not sure if that would hurt the sale. if the potential buyer didn't want any of the parts I would lower the price of the car of course. and rob I'd hold those two parts for you.

we can talk on tuesday about it if you decide to meet up.

I don't mind if people know that I'm the "local member" :)

I drove this car for a few hours on Feb 4, and I would've bought it right there if I had the money. Take it from a mechanic, this car is solid... there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it, and nothing feels wrong with it.

The only thing I'd do is the usual BMW change of ownership stuff.... change coolant, flush radiator, oil change, timing belt, and check all other fluids. Not that I don't trust Chuck... I'm just like that. When I bought my car it had all that done to it before it was even registered. :)

Good car, good price.

thanks for the good words ryan, and for coming out of the closet ;) :)

always good advice to do maintenance stuff. I tried to list out the stuff that i have done since i got the car, and what should be done but above and beyond would be great.

oh and E36's went back to the timing chain FYI.

Car still for sale? I'm in Madison a lot, could I maybe check it out this weekend?

SlickDizzy, welcome to the forums. the car is still for sale, i guess people can see i'm not chasing down buyers to get rid of the thing, kinda just waiting on various people from the forums that have showed some interest. so that means, come see it, ask questions, make an offer...

i'm probably not interested in any trades.

thanks

Thanks for the welcome! This seems like a pretty massive community...I've been looking for a newer car, and a friend of mine with an E30 suggested an E36...lo and behold, there's one in the area in my price bracet.

I'll be in the area on Thurs-Fri to help a friend move into his new place. Should have some spare time after...Where on the west side are you?

hi again, i was over looking over the car today and I noticed that there is a little coolant spot and little oil spot on the floor of the garage.

i'm almost positive that the coolant expansion tank is leaking and i believe that the either the oil filter gasket or the valve cover gasket is where the oil is coming from.

i don't want to be that guy who sells a car that has hidden problems for the future owner, so i am going to temporarily take the car off the market and fix these things.

if you still want to see the car before that point it is cool, but i want to open and honest about disclosing things.

if a person wanted to take care of these things and come at me with a lower price because of it please let me know.

any questions feel free to contact me.

SlickDizzy
02-28-2006, 06:44 PM
Beatniks...exactly how bad are the coolant and oil leaks? I've been turning over the idea in my head and I might be willing to pick it up without the problems fixed, if it meant a lower price.

beatniks325
02-28-2006, 07:14 PM
the coolant amount was roughly half the amount in the expansion tank. it is very easy to tell that it is coming from the tank by the drips on the lower radiator hose and the location of the coolant puddle. the expansion tank is cracked somewhere and would need to be replaced. that is pretty easy and the parts are roughly $100.

the oil leak is roughly 5-10 drips and like i mentioned i'm guessing the oil filter housing gasket (not the one that holds the lid but the one further down.) or the valve cover gasket (up near the vanos unit, pretty common leak place). i was holding off to replace that gasket with spark plugs, which should be changed/examined too.) both gaskets sets would cost you less than $100 combined.

then labor time of course.

by all means calculate out what you think the right price should be given this stuff and hit me back.

my buddy whose shop/work area i use is out of town sking until this weekend so i was holding off until then to looking into fixing the stuff myself.

i'd even help you with part numbers and where to order parts if you were so inclined and if you did it in town here, i could lend a hand.

It's been surprisingly easy to do. The car was giving me hell for the first week of ownership. SeaFoam, spark plugs, a valve cover gasket and TPS have made it run like new. I have the radiator, gonna do that Friday morning.
