soo i am coming home from work today and i am turning on to 234 bypass in Manassas and what do i see but a black 350Z!!! he was about 2 cars behind me and made an agressive move to catch up to me, so i knew he wanted some:D . i have yet to race a 350Z soo i was wondering how the outcome would be.

well, he gets up beside me and so i punch it but much to my dismay he did not go with me. well we came up on some traffic, but by this time he had punched it passed me and got in front of me( i like to follow). anyways, it was obvious to me that he had aftermarket exhaust. once he got an opening he hit it and i followed suit. we were at 60mph when we hit it and i took it to 130mph. by the time i was into 4th i had passed him and put him on my back bumper. when i got into 5th i had him by a good 4 cls, so i am guessing he let off. when i shut it down at 130mph he was a good 15 cls behind me soo it was very obvious he had let off sometime earlier.

we pulled up at a light and he told me had exhaust, headers, and intake, but i could hear from his exhaust note that his car was an automatic. he confirmed this when i asked him if it was an automatic.

he was a real cool guy, but i am guessing i shoulda beat him like i did. i just put 24lb injectors, tms chip, and euro hfm in my car, which i think helped me a touch. i highly doubt i woulda had the same result with a manual 350Z with the same mods.

Nice kill, how high in the RPMs were you at 130 mph with the 3.38? I can't wait to install mine....

man i didn't really pay attention to my tach, but if my perifial vision serves me right i wanna say i was at around 5500 or lower. i read somewhere on a post that with the chip you can hit 152mph with the 3.38 gearing. it had a whole layout of the top speeds in all five gears with the chip and without it.

Someone who has no business racing a OBD-1 M3 that's for sure. :buttrock

well I guess that works too. But I was just going to simply say, the same could be said about an auto m3, or any auto sports car.

chaser good race man, your car sounds like a beast now. I think you'd have no problem mopping the floor with me.

A buddy of mine is running over 425whp on his auto 350Z (Vortech). I asked him the same thing about the choice of the auto.....he was too impatient to wait for a manual to become available at the dealership he said......might be BS. Anyway, his car is an absolute beast and auto or not will trash most cars out there.

Personally, I will never buy anything with high hp and auto. The new M5 doesnt make sense to me in auto. Yeah the newer race bred autos are probably faster than manuals, but who cares unless you race it all the time. I like to row the gears and chirp the tires. My R would still chirp 2nd and 3rd even though it was an AWD. Car is totalled as of 2 days ago so now i'm shopping around for a E39 M5.....hoping to have one in the next few weeks.

Where are you located??? I found one in CT that looks interesting.....same color as your with 13k miles ('03). I'm very tempted, just waiting on check from my insurance company.

Have you had any issues with your M5?

So true. There's a guy on 350Zmotoring.com who posts in the "kills" section all the time. He's got an '05 AT 350Z. He traded in his '03 AT 350Z to get it. :rolleyes

Sniz, he loves his e39 m5. Would recommend it to anyone. He'll tell you quirks, prices, things to look for, etc. Only thing he does wrong, is always talk about his craptastic bowtied old car. :stickoutt

The only car I know of that people prefer the auto to the 6 speed (in some cases) is the Supra. That Auto is faster than the 6 speed in the 1/4 mile.

Gaaaaayyyyy..........Brad see even though you're faster, you still own an auto (you in general, not you in particular....unless you were a homosectional and purchased an auto). I don't care if they are faster, I still love shifting and love controlling where my gear is. Much more fun to me. But then we get into the age old argument of auto vs. manny, which is about as bad as 95 M3 vs 96+. :rolleyes

SMG is a wannabes manual. It is better than auto, cool at first, but still not the same as manual. it has perks for being a quick shift, but you can't launch with it, highest you can launch is 2k rpms.

I'd rather have the 6mt in an e46 m3, than a SMG. Opinions are mixed on here, same with auto vs manual, just depends on what you want.

There were no Supra Twin Turbo Auto Hardtops produced, ever. I'm with you I hate autos and SMG's alike, I wouldn't buy one.

Yeah unfortunately u cant take any more pics of my car unless you go to the salvage yard. Quite sad really, it was a great car and very unique. Car had more goodies on it than almost any other R in the US........a good bit over 300whp in an awd volvo, not bad. Plus, the R has probably the most comfortable seats in any car around.

Anyway, here are some pics in case you want to see them or us them for anything.

anyway, back on topic, yes, 350zs are slow, yes, only an IDIOT (imo) would buy a slow 'sports car' with an automatic, and yes, I've beaten many 350zs (at the 1/4) to the point that the owners stopped talking to us (there were about 8 or 9 srt4s, and 5 or 6 Z cars (G35/350Z), only one of them was running a 13!! (sc'd g35) the sc'd 350z that was there was slower than the STOCK one!! hahaha)

the s/c 350 was slower than a stock one? Yeck that is jsut pathetic.

Also leiter, may I ask what mods you have? It sounds as if you are putting down a good amount of power, but you are still running the pizza cutters. May I suggest switching them thingies out? :)

haha, yeah, I need to! I'm looking at doing a lot more to the car this summer. I've got stage 1, agp wastegate, Greddy boost controller, intake, new intercooler piping w/hks bov, solid motor mounts, walboro 255 fuel pump, balance shaft chain removal, full vaccum line reroute, and a bit more. I run 20psi, holding 15 to redline. Car's pretty quick for the stock turbo. And hopefully this summer I'll be able to slap on a GT35 or GT40 :D but that time at the track, where all the Z cars were running like shit, I was stock!! lol
