View Full Version : Raced a cop last night!!!
UltimateDrivr 01-19-2006, 03:59 PM last night driving home from work in my ford explorer (not bmw) some dumbass in a volvo i think it was a s40 or something like that, was riding my ass....so i speed up...and then the volvo went to the lane beside me and tried to pass me. when i saw him do this i floored it, my truck is a 5L v8 with some mods so its quick for a truck....we were side by side until about 80mph where he started pulling on me. ended up at about 95mph a car pulled out in front of the volvo and he had to slow down....i slowed down too cause i was going almost 60mph over the limit....then in my rearview mirror i see the volvo speeding up behind me and puts on his flashing lights...i swear to god i almost shit my pants....he came up to my car and asked for my license....i gave it to him...he didnt run it or anything, just looked at it....then he asked me if i ever been to jail before...thats when i really got scared....told him no...then he asked me if i really though my truck could beat him...he was a young cop, like 25 or something, and he was real cool....i made some small talk with him...u know be polite and smile.....anyways long story short..he said dont be a dumbass and let me off
eek142 01-19-2006, 04:12 PM lots of kill stories recently about ppl racing the po-po...pssh...a volvo s40...interesting
SASAM5POWER 01-19-2006, 08:39 PM lol thats hilarious. good thing you didnt get arrested. and since when do the cops drive volvos it must be for safety.
02ImolaM3 01-19-2006, 08:50 PM yea whats up with 3 cop racing stories in one week?
addnon 01-19-2006, 09:08 PM Um isn't that illegal for the cop to do? There is a legal term for this, inciting a race trying to get someone a ticket. I know this because a friend (integra gsr), fought a ticket because the cop instigated the race.
Anyhow, why race non-enthusiasts, or lack of a better word, dumb*** drivers? Usually they are the ones that are going around starting road rage/violence.
Fly Guy 01-19-2006, 09:39 PM Driving a VOlVO?? What?? That's amazing! I've seen (Online) Mustang GT for regualr police cars.
M5Dook 01-19-2006, 10:34 PM ugh, you're one of THOSE, I hate that, when someone is going slow ahead of me and I try to go around and they speed up.... It's not anything personal, you're just going slow.

It's called "Entrapment".
I think the 'young' cop pulled you over to feed his ego. I'm sure he could've slapped you with a ticket but it would'nt stick (see above).
s0crates82 01-19-2006, 10:39 PM There's a CHP unit in Tehachapi, CA that has a Volvo as a pursuit car. Fox body Mustang coupes (notchbacks) used to be used by the CHP as pursuit vehicles (they use camaros now) all over the state.
O-Dogg 01-19-2006, 10:41 PM I would've asked him for his badge # and his full name. If you ask for his badge # he has to give it to you.

werd. I had to put a 4.6 GT with pipes to rest one night for doing that. 110 and all he saw was an ///M, b/c i pwnd him in the twisties.
Alpine 318is 01-20-2006, 01:53 AM then he asked me if i really though my truck could beat him
:rofl :rofl :rofl

Here in North VAn/BC/CAnada, we have a couple undercover black f150 trucks all black, a few vans, including caravans and some bigger gmc vans. I think the worst undercover car we have is a blue WRX STI that is lowered with some body kit and crazy BOV sound, which i've heard storys from friends of friends, that all he does is instigate races with vehicles that look modified... I've seen him a couple times around town, scares the cr@p out of me everytime I remember he's a cop.
There is some other funky black vehicle around here too, I have no clue what the heck it might be, kind of looks like a H3 with some landrover in it.
tran_man 01-20-2006, 11:07 AM According to the story, it COULD be entrapment, but we don't know what the officer's intentions were. What if the cop tried to zoom past the truck to let the OP know that he was a cop and wanted him to slow down but couldn't make it up to him in time? Sometimes cops would rather cruise along or pass someone to make a quick point and not have to pull them over. But because he couldn't do this, he had to fall back and just hit the lights. Too many cop haters out there. Nothing he said there proved that the cop was out to get him, just following closely like 99% of drivers do everyday.
BoneThug 01-20-2006, 03:25 PM I would've asked him for his badge # and his full name. If you ask for his badge # he has to give it to you.
or he could just drive away from you.
when you go to report that a white cop between the ages of 25 and 28 raced you in a volvo, first no will will believe you, and 2nd they'll tell you that description fits about 300 cops and they have no way of telling which one you raced.
case closed.
Roger Rabbit 01-20-2006, 05:12 PM UC are no joke anymore. In atlanta 30% of the cops on the highway 400 and now unmarked UC vehicles. They are starting to take speeding to another level. I was driving last night and saw 5 cops flooring through 85. Dont know what they were after but crap its crazy now.

You're right, there is a dumbass at work here. He's just not driving a Volvo.
It's jerks like you that create dangerous driving situations for innocent bystanders (like if oncoming traffic had to swerve to avoid the volvo)
O-Dogg 01-20-2006, 05:42 PM or he could just drive away from you.

I would've asked for that info cause he was riding your his ass. Thats how car accidents happen.
MartinV 01-20-2006, 10:39 PM I saw in Orlando FL, Hwy cop pulling people in a Mercury Marauder. But would have never figured on a Volvo!
fm.illuminatus 01-21-2006, 04:00 AM lol thats hilarious. good thing you didnt get arrested. and since when do the cops drive volvos it must be for safety.
They drive them in washington state also, I know. Michigan is looking at buying dodge chargers for their police force. It just passed their test program with flying colors so it might be out and about in black and white within the year.

Thanks for the heads up. Have you seen that STI in Richmond, or...?

Now they have Volvo and Mustang Cop Cars! I almost got pulled over by a Dodge Durango CHP today. Just unfair you just can't win if they look like any other car. Why don't they just stick to regular cop cars.
///M318i/// 02-03-2006, 01:02 AM hell up in vail the cops drive saab 9-5 vectors
ibmmer 02-03-2006, 02:07 AM wow thats crazy a cop would usually ticket me for going 5 over the speed limit. I would never try to be a hero and evade the police at 95mph especially in a SUV, ESPECIALLY in a FORD SUV.
parad0x 02-04-2006, 04:40 AM Thanks for the heads up. Have you seen that STI in Richmond, or...?
hmm, which one are you talking about?
I've never heard of a cop driving an S40 before. I have seen a few S70 T5 police cars. Those things are beasts, can hit 160mph. My Volvo C70 has the same engine as an S70 T5, and I'll tell you this, that car can rip my 328i appart like tissue paper.
MTech 02-04-2006, 07:15 AM i got pulled over in hawaii for doing 60 on a 35. the cop was in a black camaro. i was in a stupid blue neon rental car so he knows i was a tourist who can't contest the damn ticket. that damn neon can't even do 60mph! that's what i get for driving a neon.:mad
cookielover 02-04-2006, 08:15 AM It's called "Entrapment".

I think it's the opposite way around. Maybe the cop is just in a rush to go somewhere for a job but Ford person wouldn't yield to someone who's going faster than him. "When I saw him do this I floored it," this sounds like someone is driving with a chip on his shoulder. If this was the case then it would not be an entrapment because the cop was never racing. Besides, cop's word verus a speeder's word, good luck.

I've got a buddy who jus joined the force here in Maryland and he says that 60% or their cars are UC... Cameros, Mustang Gts and a bunch of GM trucks.... I've gotta watch it.....:help
awahl63 02-04-2006, 10:41 AM lots of kill stories recently about ppl racing the po-po
+ a million watch out
M Roady 02-04-2006, 12:40 PM I knew some po-po a long time ago. Some of them would put flashing light kits on their personal cars. I assume this is a new/young cop thing. Just a little too stoked about his position of power.
ugh, you're one of THOSE, I hate that, when someone is going slow ahead of me and I try to go around and they speed up.... It's not anything personal, you're just going slow.
That's what the road rage guy in my silveradowned story tried to do. Then he got all bent because for some reason he didn't come even close to keeping me from passing him. :rolleyes
EEEEeeee36 02-10-2006, 01:04 AM It's not illegal for a cop to provoke/entice you to race. Entrapment doesn't apply when the person is provided an opportunity, shows willingness, and completes an action. Entrapment is when a cop forces you or tricks you to do something illegal - hard to do, but that's why those laws are there. Ever wonder why a cop can handle REAL drugs and sell them to people to bust them and THAT not be entrapment?
As far as undercover cars go for Washington State Patrol, this is what I've personally witnessed:
Late 90's white Volvo V70 wagon;
Early 2000's Black camaro;
A Plain (and usually quite filthy) black Chevy Tahoe, 02 or 03 (have seen that one literally 4 times with a car pulled over;
An 05 Chevy Impala (again completely unmarked - even has license tags);
03 WRZ STi Yellow, fart can exhaust, rims, lowered, tint;
An Orange Hummer H2 (it's unmarked, but it has D.A.R.E license plate frames - never seen it pull anyone over);
Unmarked Crown Vics Galore;
Late model Dodge Intrepid(s);
Dark Green B4 Audi A4;
Dark Blue Mustang GT 5.0;
Every single one of these cars had exceedingly illegally dark tint. All the way around - front windows, back windows, etc etc. They usually don't wash the cars on purpose also - I think most people know that cops get their cars washed for free (or at least the city/state has an 'arrangement' with local car washes) so it's less inconspicuous if it's dirty. Washington State has this Aggressive Driver Apprehension Team that has been made to apprehend aggressive driving/racing and road rage situations, so they are coming out with undercover sports cars and other cars all the time now. I've also heard that there are a few other cars that I haven't witnessed (we have a "WSP Watch" thread on the VWVortex :D ).
Long story short, I simply don't feel comfortable speeding at ALL anymore. Once in awhile I'll blip the gas and hit 100 to get it out of my system, but WSP is getting super sneaky and I don't want to be one of the next 'victims' *knocks on wood*.
EEEEeeee36 02-10-2006, 01:12 AM Oh yeah, here's an article out of that same thread. If you are in WA, check out this Vortex thread too...

Washington State Patrol's Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team releases enforcement data
OLYMPIA -- Chief Lowell Porter announced today the Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team (ADAT) is continuing to show that they are making a difference in highway safety in Washington State. There are currently 33 ADAT vehicles in the state and within the year 13 more will be added. The ADAT program utilizes unmarked/non-traditional police vehicles equipped with mobile video cameras to detect and apprehend aggressive drivers.
Some wonder if the unmarked cars are really fair. The last time you were driving and a vehicle went by you at a high rate of speed, making unsafe lane changes, and tailgating; what was your first thought? It probably was that the driver needed to get pulled over and issued a ticket. Now ask yourself, would that same driver have driven that way if a marked patrol car was ahead of him/her? With an unmarked ADAT vehicle we are able to apprehend these types of drivers who put us all in danger, videotape their actions, and convict them in court. Now throw in a partnership with the Field Operations Bureau, Commercial Vehicle Division (CVD), and the Aviation Division and you have one of the best ADAT programs in the country.
Â
ADAT troopers account for 40% of the total aggressive driving arrests made by troopers statewide. CVD also utilizes unmarked patrol vehicles to combat aggressively driven commercial vehicles and cars driving in a hazardous manner around commercial vehicles.
Â
Aggressive driving stops can also lead to other violations such as warrant arrests, drug arrests, stolen vehicle recoveries, suspended/revoked drivers, and other violations.Â
Â
Below is a comparison of what the ADAT troopers have done:

"The Washington State Patrol has the best full functioning ADAT program in the country. This program is a great success story when it comes to increased traffic safety on our states highways. The State Patrol receives yearly Federal grant money to fund the program which is used to purchase the vehicles and equipment.  This is a great attribute to the men and women who are working hard everyday in the ADAT program," stated Chief Porter."
That means that by this year they'll have 46 unmarked/civilian incognito ADAT cars in my state... :( Looks like my road coarse budget just got a LOT bigger!
Here's the Vortex thread:

EEEEeeee36 02-10-2006, 01:16 AM Here's a good one:
Victoria, BC
Ford F-150 with a wheelbarrow welded to the bed for authenticity!!
Would you think a cop would have a wheelbarrow in the back?? :banghead:
EEEEeeee36 02-10-2006, 01:38 AM And here is a good definition on entrapment:
http://www.lectlaw.com/def/e024.htm
Specifically:
"...there is no entrapment where a person is ready and willing to break the law and the Government agents merely provide what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit the crime. For example, it is not entrapment for a Government agent to pretend to be someone else and to offer, either directly or through an informer or other decoy, to engage in an unlawful transaction with the person. So, a person would not be a victim of entrapment if the person was ready, willing and able to commit the crime charged in the indictment whenever opportunity was afforded, and that Government officers or their agents did no more than offer an opportunity."
