View Full Version : 3:15 vs 3:23 ... waste of time?

Hey all,

I have a stock 3:15 in the race car right now. I just bought a 96 M3 for a street car, and I'm wondering if I should bother swapping the diffs so the 3:23 is in the race car? The 3:23 has about 79k miles on it, but the 3:15 has 145k, so neither is new, but the 3:23 is a bit fresher. I'm not worried about the job (I've done it before), just wondering if I'd be wasting my time for such a small ratio gain.

And before you all suggest it, I will be getting a custom built diff for next (2007) season!

are you having issues at the track? if not, I wouldnt bother. But if so, I'd bet the 3.23's clutches are far less worn than the 3.15 ;)

If you are just talking about a Saturday where you otherwise would be watching golf on TV, do it. If it also costs you $ it probably isn't worth it.

There is a good chance that the '96 is a 4 bolt and the '95 is a 6 bolt. Verify first.

Have you gone through the '95 3.15? Read my link in the Sig, every '95 checked so far has had no locktite (not a big sample, but everyone!)......would love to find one that BMW didn't screw up on....

IMO, yes.

But to 3.38 is a different story.
