View Full Version : HUGE favor to ask in the MAR... can anyone let me borrow a V1???
GUINNESS 01-18-2006, 12:56 PM Or any radar detector that isn't hardwired for that matter. Sure, I'd love to be able to use a Valentine, but I'm not going to say no to someone who is willing to let me borrow one.
I'm going on a long road trip leaving Friday afternoon and returning Wednesday afternoon. So, would anyone be ever so kind to uhhh let me borrow a detector for 5 days :) Please. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks.
GUINNESS 01-18-2006, 05:43 PM Oh well, never hurts to ask though.
I hope you don't die on your trip. :(
GUINNESS 01-18-2006, 05:59 PM I hope you don't die on your trip. :(
I hope I don't either... but I guess if I e-die and come back to life, that will be pretty cool... I mean, it's gonna be a long road trip. A lot can happen while I'm gone  :paranoid:
I was also thinkin about doin it the old school way... breaker breaker 1-9, how bout a 4-1-1 on them smokie bears :buttrock
simsima325 01-18-2006, 06:57 PM where are you heading?
GUINNESS 01-18-2006, 09:17 PM Sent you a PM
Mr. Maboomba 01-18-2006, 11:57 PM I have a V1 1.8 lying around. I'll let you borrow it if I can hold some kind of collateral. It is a $300 item and I don't know you.
GUINNESS 01-19-2006, 11:18 AM This is true... I realize these things are expensive and it is a huge favor. There are many on here who can speak for me too (bogdan, eric, pete, james, jed, gary martin from martin motorsports in alexandria, etc). If it broke, I'd pay for it. If it was stolen or taken, I'd pay for it.
What did you have in mind?
Ken's a good guy.
Too bad he's dead... :(

No no no... not yet... I need to borrow a detector first, then I can die... but the detector will get back to the owner from the dead
lilbit 01-19-2006, 12:22 PM I can guarantee that if he dies, I will return it...
Since he is coming to see me. :)

NoSoup4U 01-19-2006, 06:08 PM If you really wanted -- just buy the V1 and pay the overnight cost ($9.99 IIRC) and then return it. I bought a new V1 a few weeks ago and had it FED EX'd to me. The new one also has the pop radar and something else. Also, the cigarette cord plug is different in the new ones vs. the old ones. I would do that, or, goto best buy and purchase the passport in Md and then return it. You don't want to borrow a random person's detector and possibly get it stolen, something broken or confiscated (VA).

If I had the money, I'd just buy one and be done with it :( Eh, I guess I could just go the speed limit... with or without a detector I planned on it. Just wanted one for peace of mind considering it's a 17 - 18 hr drive.
NoSoup4U 01-20-2006, 02:51 AM No offense. If you don't have money to buy a radar detector "and" return it (I'm not saying keep it -- charge it and then return it), then why are you going on a 17-18 hour trip? The gas alone will be around $300 if not more including food costs. If you are going for a booty call -- it's about 40% less than the gas cost in D.C. at a massage parlor.

Doesn't Best Buy charge a restocking fee? I think they charge 15% on radar detectors.
You might want to double check flight costs. I found it was actually about the same price to fly than to drive for my last long distance trip.

Come on James, I know I said I have no money, but I didn't mean absolutely none... I have plenty of funds for gas, food, living costs, bills, savings, etc and have budgeted for this trip. It is more hassle to buy something and return it and it's something I simply do not want to deal with, nor do I want to tap what is put aside. And I wouldn't drive 17 - 18 hours for a booty call either. That's just retarded. AND.... while it's not a booty call, there is NO massage parlor, and I mean absolutely none, that can compare. :D

I did check... cheaper to drive and I want to drive it.
