35% I think

35% total, so if your car has any tint from the factory, you'd need to have 50% tint to be legal. Most cars come with between 90-95% tint now, so a 35% film would make it 25-30% total, which will fail. That is why no inspection station will pass a car with tint without a State Trooper approving it first.

I have 34% on my car. The meter reads 28 in the shade and 29 in the sun. 35% is the legal limit.

well i guess i am off to waldorf tomorrow to get my windows checked. there is no factory tint on my windows and they arent dark at all.

my shop isnt an inspection station, but another one is (still in the chain). so when i bought my M3 i was going to tint the windows before i got it to him, and he said dont do it. no matter how dark it is (even 100% legal) he would need to have MSP check it out. they are so afraid of a tropper doing a check and something being wrong that they would get fined out the @$$ or worst case their inspection license can get revoked. i remember way back in the day you used to be able to get a car inspected sight unseen for $50. now no one will even think about doing that.

So i took the tint out and brought it back to the shop to get my certificate and the guy didnt even look at my car. oh well. looks ok and only took me 30min to take out fronts and backs. still bs in my own opinion. even the cops in my apartment complex said that was bs but they couldnt do anything.

f Maryland tint laws. I can understand that troopers don't want to walk up to cars with limo tint, but 34%? Come on.

the car is registered in va right now and they had no problems with the tint.

does that mean it passed VA inspection?

yes sir with flying colors. i have never had a problem with the tint in va. it wasnt even that dark. 350z comes with darker tint than i had.
