has anybody here dealt with bavarian engine exchange? i need a new motor for my e30. the only thing i am a little hesitant about is that they are located in california and that if there are any problems with the motor it is a long distance away. their used motors are supposed to have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. anybody have any expereince with warranty from these guys? i would prefer to buy locally but i have been unable to find anything. any help is appreciated.

I bought a M42 from them about a year ago, I got the performance rebuilt M42. Have it in there and going, no problems with the motor. Had a couple of issues with customer service after Steve stopped working for them but other than that everything is great. It does rattle a little in the morning but I think that is more to do with it being 5 degrees outside and a cold motor....
The motor does have more power than my old broken stock motor did, the only issue I have is they won't tell you exactly what they did. I have no idea what cams they used, etc...other than what is listed on their webpage, and the customer service people didn't know what they did to the motor beyond the vague description on their webpage...It would be nice to know all the details but it must be some closely guarded secret or something.
Shipping isn't that bad either. they used fed-ex freight to get the motor to Alaska and it was under $200.00 for shipping. I did however go to the freight terminal and pick up the motor myself. The cost gets substatially more expensive if you have the motor delivered somewhere after it gets to the local freight terminal.

I've bought other stuff from them and so far my experience has been great, on the bill of at least $1000. They're a possible engine supplier if I do a transplant. My idea was to rent a pickup truck and have them place the skid with the engine on it into the bed of the truck, and then when I get home I would simply use an engine hoist to lift it out of the bed. To and from my place would cost about $80 in gas plus the truck rental, but not a bad deal if you consider you are able to be present when you take delivery and are able to have some control in the shipping process, unlike leaving it up to a freight carrier to do so (sorry if anyone works for a carrier, I'm just paranoid about my stuff and like to see it in person lol). "alaskabimmer's" suggestion of using fedex is a good idea, simply have it dropped at the freight terminal.

Renting a truck and driving it hundred's of mile costs a lot. At least $200 for the rental, one way, 230 miles. Ask me how I know? I did it twice.

i am more concerned with the warranty on a used engine because the shop is pretty far away. i want to make sure that they honor their warranty commitements.
