View Full Version : miami to jax in 3 1/2 hours
DANGERFOOT 01-16-2006, 08:54 PM i went down to south beach miami this weekend to visit some of my friends that live down there. I was amazed though that it took me a little under 3 and a half hours to drive back. This is from miami to jacksonville....like 350 something miles. I was wondering if anyone has a better time.
97alpineM3 01-16-2006, 08:57 PM At 60 mph ... that would take you about 5hrs 42 mins... give or take a few mins...
So your saying you traveled ~350miles in 3.5hrs?...
Thats going an average of 100mph... no way.

m3fuz 01-16-2006, 09:08 PM Where in Jax are you? I've done that drive too, but it took over 5 hours, especially with all the construction outside of Jax and St. Aug. Drive safely out there.
PrestoMB 01-16-2006, 09:12 PM Damn, did you have a seperate kane the whole time and invisible to popo?
nismo skyline 01-16-2006, 09:17 PM i went 270 miles in 3 hrs. from my house to las vegas.
an average of 90 miles an hour and it was done in my scion not the m3.

i live with a friend on the beach (south a1a, ponte vedra) but i am moving to south jax beach in a couple weeks. there wasnt any traffic the whole way down except for an area outside of palm coast near miami. I cruzed at about 100-110 mph the whole way in the fast lane. Just about every one was nice enough to get out of the way when i came haulin ass up behind them. Valentine 1 saved me from the only highway patrol car i saw the entire time outside of daytona. I left miami a little after 3 and by the time i got to saint aug there werent many people on the road. I think i had pretty much perfect speeding conditions the whole way.
mredwin25 01-16-2006, 10:49 PM You're lucky FHP is running short on their staff.
unboostedzc 01-16-2006, 11:17 PM I did Daytona to South Miami Beach (Ocean Drive/5th Street) in exactly 4 hours on Saturday. Left at 10:30 arrived 2:29 in her Civic. Left again at 6:30 and got back here at 10:30 in my BMW/Civic. So for you to go that much further, you must have been hauling. I was doing an average of 80 most of both ways. That construction in Palm was a bit*h though.
Foglght 01-16-2006, 11:27 PM Another ridonculous thread about somebody driving way to fast on the highway that definitely should not have been.
The problem may not even be you and your driving, but the lack of predictability of even more uneducated drivers that are in the lane next to you. The stupid things people do on the highway amaze me every day.
#1 problem is just being uneducated about your driving PRIVELAGE
#2 problem is CELLPHONES!!!!
2 weeks ago I sat at a GREEN light with a lady talking on her cell phone. Light went green for 5-6 seconds. I finally gave her the horn, and what did she do? I got the finger out the window from her while she was yelling at me and telling whomever she was talking to that I was an asshole.
Oh wait they get better.
What about the old ass lady that was sitting in the middle lane on a 3 lane freeway. I was cruising at about 75 in the fast lane with very light traffic on a Sunday. Old bitch decides not to even look and with no signal darts into my lane. Here is the best part. She was doing 40! Lets just say I had to perform an emergency lane change to avoid plowing her K-car. The point of this example is:
What would you do if that lady had done that while you were cruising at 100+? Wait, I can answer that for you...you had two options.
1. You slam on the brakes and hit her in the left rear sending her into a spin and you then broadsiding her after she hits the wall.
2. You swerve to avoid her, pulling left or right and probably hitting her anyway, but if you managed to miss, more than likely you would have corrected twice and hooked the car and flipped over or hit a guard rail.
I can think of 100 examples of why you shouldn't do that. What if there was a random pothole (maybe not in Florida). In Michigan @100+ if you hit some of those potholes, you car would fall apart on the spot.
I've hit birds on the race track @130 or so and they cracked the windshield.
Think about the best example of all. What if I was next to you and pissed off that you were endangering other peoples lives? What if I just swerved slightly into your lane to make you pee yourself? You think anybody would stop and help you if you wrecked your car after watching to drive that fast? I sure wouldn't. I'd drive right by, and in fact have a chuckle as I drive by.

You deserve to be bitch slapped.

So let me get this straight...you would actually pretend to lane change just to see someone's reaction as they are speeding well above the posted speed limit? This is your best example of stopping someone from speeding? What if they brake hard and cause a pileup all because of your pretend lane change to get their attention?
Wow.
///Mpmp1025 01-17-2006, 01:10 AM ive made the tallahassee to ft. lauderdale trip in just over 4 hours before. i was hauling some serious ass though and had a V1. i will never do that again. i had just gotten into coral springs and i had to out run a cop. i got away but looking back i think that was one of the dumbest things ive ever done. but it was good times
///w3fl3x 01-17-2006, 03:24 AM Wow there's still construction down in the palm's area? I was down there visiting my grandparents during the summer.
Can't wait to go down there next summer. :D
I wish we had nice weather like that all the time. It's still raining up here. It's been raining for 25 days straight, but it stopped on sunday but started back up again today. :(

Wouldn't that be pre-meditated vehiclular manslaughter?:nono
jvit27 01-17-2006, 11:03 AM That's fast man, Takes me 4 hrs from Ft Laud to Jax doing a solid 80mph the whole way. You were lucky they weren't clocking you from above. Between Jupiter and Cocoa they use Cessna's ALOT, V1 wouldn't have saved you.
Daved 01-17-2006, 12:44 PM I believe you. I have done a 180 miles highway trip plus 10 miles city in 1h40m. And that includes 3 stops to pay the toll. You can do the average yourself ;) :evil2
Foglght 01-17-2006, 02:20 PM The point is that if you were doing closer to the speed limit, you would have time and the car would actually be capable of performing the action intended.
I used a what if. There are more people that are even more viscious than my post. So what happens when you run into a road rager?
The other point is what would be the result if this actually happened? You are out a car, and maybe your life. And guess what, it would be YOUR FAULT. You can't blame anyone except yourself.
Oh wait, what if somebody did hit their brakes hard causing a pileup? Whose fault is that? I hope you aren't blaming me for that.
You are endangering OTHER peoples lives. That is the real point I guess. All of you flamers know it's wrong. You choose to take other peoples lives into your own hands.
Here is the best one of all. What happens when you are doing 100+ and your right front tire blows? I've seen it on the race track and on the street. 90% of the time, instant car damage, if not flipping the car or hitting a wall.
Who knows if I would have swerved on purpose. I could have dropped a cigarette, was talking on my cellphone, reaching for a CD, or a million other things people use as excuses.
You want to take that chance?

Nice - I'm in Southside (9A & Baymeadows area). Are you the white 95 that's up at Eurospec every now and again?

Dude take it easy. Everybody takes chances, some more than others. It's great that you are a racecar driver and have seen many things happen on the track, but that's not enough of a reason to come in here and lecture everybody on driving.
That is some sick time. Sometimes it works out that way. Every now and again I get into a group of some fast people on the way down to Orlando and then we get there really really fast.
