Hey guys,

I'm heading up to Vancouver for a week on business, and was wondering what is good to do up there on my down time. I live in San Diego so the scenery isn't really of interest to me, but I do like to go to bars, or clubs. Anything good in the area? Thanks for your help, and I'm open to all ideas about what the do, where to eat, etc...

If you are looking for some bars/clubs/lounges/ladies, you are gonna have to hit up Granville street; it’s where you'll find most of the nightlife that Vancouver has to offer. IF you're looking for a more upscale experience, check out the Yaletown area; plenty of things to do there.

Plush, Mirage and Caprice are the better clubs out here, depending on what nite your planning to go, what music you like etc etc.

Atlanits is alright too, but leave ur wallet at home if you go there.

some how, some way, the ladies will find a way to fleace you, always do

Well I'm flying my girl up for the first weekend of the trip, so I need some places to take her. Sights to see, touristy stuff during the day. At night, any club that plays some good music. Top 40 usually. Loungy places are nice when I'm with the girl, but when I'm alone I wouldn't mind checking out some of those clubs.

Any good websites I can go to and check out the scene?

The http://www.thefreshpage.com/nightclubs.html is ok as is clubvibes.com, select Vancouver.

Bar None goes off on Friday night but late. Ginger 62 on Granville is a bit more loungy but still a good time. Some of the bars on Granville Street are very bridge & tunnel including the Roxy and Crush. Both blow hard IMHO.

You can spend the day on Robson Street shopping. Head into Yaletown for dinner / pre bar drinnks at Global or George. Hard to go wrong in Yaletown but if you hit the lineups to the clubs during peak time be prepared to grease the doorman $20 / head to skip the line.

Have fun!

sounds good. I'm staying at the Sheraton Wall Centre...is that close to stuff?

Yup...2 blocks north to Robson and 2 blocks east to Granville Street. You should try and hit the "Earl's" restaurant just around the corner from you on Friday afternoon for drinks...lots of beautiful babies to stare at :)

Wall Centre is smack dab in the middle of downtown Vancouver. Just cab it around or walk as you are well within walking distance of almost everything.

A cool day thing is to walk south down Hornby Street to the very foot and jump on the water taxi which takes you over to Granville Island. There is a public market there full of neat food & shopping. Your concierge will be happy to send you in the right direction....you are probably looking at a 15 minute walk to the water taxi.

When are you here in town? Let me know as there are a bunch of great dj's in town over the next while depending upon how much you like to party.

There is a conference there Jan 29-Feb 3. I'm going up on Jan 27 and leaving on Feb 5. So I'll have both weekends to do stuff.

Is it always raining up there? Is it cold too, or just rain?

It can get chilly but no big deal. Very occasionally we get snow but just expect some rain. When it is sunny it is very nice, though.

I'm going to check out what is going on those dates and will post if anything good is on.

You thinking of Clubzone.com?

toofast4U: Looks like Ollie has set you up good with some plans for your week in Vancouver. Definitely hit up Granville Island & Robson Street with your lady friend, maybe even Stanley Park if it’s a nice day and Yaletown for some drinks at night. Remember to bring your umbrella; it’s been raining almost every day this month, I think we may have broken a record for rainfall in January :(

great just my luck. At least everything should be green ;)

Where are some good breakfast places? Something by the water maybe, with a view? Thanks.

I appreciate all the help so far. It's been really good. Keep it coming!!!

For breakfast with the lady friend go here: http://www.provencevancouver.com/marinaside/index_original.htm

Its excellent and right on the water in Yaletown. Seriously you can walk there down Davie Street (not far from the Wall Centre). Beautiful views and right on the Seawall. You can stroll over to the Water Taxi across the way and take a tour of False Creek and head over to Granville Island for Shopping etc. Have a Beer at Bridges on Granville Island and you are set.

Enjoy your stay and enjoy our <ahem> Female views...:stickoutt

Agree, Provence is great for breakfast. Nice spot, lots of babes to oogle around there an Urban Fare on any given morning.

If you want a cool place to eat get the hotel to point you at Bin 941...it is just a block away at 941 Davie Street. Best tapas in the city.

Grouse mountain has a gondola ride to the top of the mountain with great views. Also some activities up there, but the main activity is boarding/skiing. For a good breakfast place, DeDutch panekoek house has great dutch-style pancakes (im not sure if they have these in San Diego aswell). The bikeshow is going to be on from jan 26-29th in the abbotsford trade center (1 hour drive from downtown). Alot of restaurants on west broadway, 4th avenue, and all over downtown. Stepho's on Davie st. serves big portions of greek food for a pretty low price. That place is famous for its lineups. Minimum 1 hour wait.

Oh and the best restaurant in the city: Sezchuan Chong-Quing, located on the corner of 12th Ave. and Commercial St. Order the Chong-Quing chicken. You wont be dissapointed. Bit spicy.

I'm not a big chinese food fan, but I think I might have to while in Vancouver. I hear the Chinatown there is really good.

Thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate it.

I live near the gated entrance to Chinatown - W. Pender and Taylor St. - take an afternoon and explore it with your lady friend. Its definately a touristy attraction thats worth the two or three hours. The insurance place there with walk-up windows and neon lights still kills me eventhough I am a local. :stickoutt

The rest of the suggestions in this thread are great and I dont need to add anything more. Hope you have a great time here!

Hey guys,

So I've been here for a couple days now and WOW...this is a great city. Went to Earls for Dinner on Friday then headed to a club called the cellar. Fun place, and the thing I was amazed with was how down to earth the people (esp. the girls) are here. Sat went to Provence for brunch...awesome, then headed to Grouse mountain (but got their too late to ice skate and what not), so went to Capilano Suspension Bridge. Fun place, something different. Last night we went to Caprice, got there at 11pm and there was no way we were getting in...so 20 bucks a head to the bouncer and walked right in no problems. Caprice was great fun...great bartenders, girls, etc.

Still here for another week, and my girl finally left and the real partying can begin. What's good during the week?

Sounds like you are hitting afew of the good spots. Wednesday nights alot of clubs have $2 highballs. I like aubar, in fact im going there this wednesday. Becareful on weekdays, some clubs have good attendance, some are empty. You have to try Marcello's on commercial street. It's simply the best italian food in town. $13 for a med pizza and you are in heaven.

Nothing really. its more like a big village. You could buy some ladies (the corner of Seymore and Smith) and smoke different stuff. other than, this if you are not a skier. And avoid that Chinatown and Surrey.
