View Full Version : OT - Porsche robbery in NJ
brucknerbmw 01-11-2006, 11:52 PM A short across the board tip to a valuable member of the automotive community who had a highly valuable Porsche stolen in NJ. Car was certainly the most advanced, one of a kind in the USA, had tons of money invested into it, and was part of a collection of fine cars. Please keep your eyes open, reward offered.
Thread on the robbery found here: forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=247509
Detailed description of the car with pictures: robertricciardi.com

IchLiebeBMW 01-12-2006, 01:55 AM Thats is such a shame, that car is absolutely beutiful!
neurot75 01-12-2006, 03:59 AM Why hasnt he posted a picture???
I mean i see his reasoning. Obviously a lot of people know him on that board, and therefore know what his car looks like. But he cannot possinly rely only on the close circle of people that know him and know what his car looks like. He should post a pic of his car regardless if he wants to have a good chance of getting it back.
I really feel sorry for him. This story sounds trully horrible.
But i really want to see this car. From the way it sounds it must look amazing. Ive always been an avid fan of Porsches. I MUST own one im life time. Petty BMW's wont suffice....
Shockwave179 01-12-2006, 06:37 AM That's a truely gut-wrenching experience. Getting something stolen that you worked hard on like that is truely a "worst nightmare".
Somehow I doubt this car will be found though thinking back on when Dado's first M was stolen. That was probably one of the most recognized cars in the country and I don't think they ever figured out what happened to it.
themadhatter 01-12-2006, 07:25 AM well that does suck, best of luck in finding it in one piece and not on ebay or in a shipping container on the way to south america. moving this to the regional forum, it does the owner no good to have it here in General.
brucknerbmw 01-12-2006, 12:04 PM Sorry for posting on the wrong board. I'm not sure whether the criticism regarding the posting of pics was addressed to me, but a collection of pics is available on the owner's personal website I provided above.
Please keep an eye open, if you ever see this beauty driving around, ultimately we're trying to spread the news as widely as possible and hope to find the car or its parts (engine alone is worth more than 30K$). To illustrate how serious the owner is, reward has been raised to 5K$ for "information that leads to the direct arrest of the person or people responsible for this horrible crime" (see p. 12 of thread posted above).
Thanks for allowing non-BMW content on the board, cross-brand solidarity goes a long way!
Regards,
Bruckner
Effervescent 01-12-2006, 12:27 PM Terrible news. Hope it's recovered just fine and the guy/guys do time.

no harm done with the post, you were looking for the most visible spot and unfortunately, GD moves too fast for many people to see this.
you'll get more localized coverage on here and more attention as well.
best of luck recovering that gem.

Pepe240sx 01-12-2006, 12:46 PM well that does suck, best of luck in finding it in one piece and not on ebay or in a shipping container on the way to south america. moving this to the regional forum, it does the owner no good to have it here in General.
Ron, before it is on the shipping container, don't they require the title to be at hand?
I'm not sure how it would work to transport a vehicle without the title, unless some shady activities go on regarding it :dunno
95325i 01-12-2006, 02:38 PM Morristown, NJ is out near my area. Thats sad when people do that... I have aways been afraid someone would do that to my car one day. I hope they find out who did it.

Pepe, you'd be shocked how easy it is to fake a title. Do you really think that a state employee is automatically an honest employee? The NJDMV is run by the scum of the earth and they know it. Stolen Title paper is not hard to score if you know where to shop, same as fake REAL drivers licenses and inspection stickers.
there was a member on this forum recently who purchased a 540i from a southern state (ga?). as it turns out, he purchased the car from a car thief who had a fake title.
that said, to ship the car, you need only a PHOTOCOPY of the title in the consignee's name and the original needs to be declared with US Customs before it ships. so a fake real title is like a golden key to this business. I see dozens of stolen cars around here in Africa all the time.

UNVMYM3 01-12-2006, 03:49 PM I've never been a huge fan of 944's, but that thing is in amazing shape.
I have to ask, the picture above where the license plate is so easily visible, was that always on his site?
If so, the poor guy was just asking for trouble. A car in that shape that is so well documented on his own site was probably being stalked. If I were you, I would hit up every body shop in the surrounding ghetto towns where this car resided. I'd be willing to bet it's going to be chopped or it's being tagged as we speak. That car could pass you some time next week a different color.
Best of luck.
MikeK 01-12-2006, 08:54 PM ill keep my eyes open... sorry to hear that

Wow!
That is shocking indeed, never could imagine how easy it would be.
Makes me think twice about this for sure.
Makster 01-13-2006, 10:06 AM I feel his pain, Porsche is part of my faivote car too....
brucknerbmw 02-25-2006, 02:45 PM UPDATE - Car has been found, unbelievable story. Check out the video on this page, you will see the Porsche in parts, sad sight but justice will be done.

Turns out the thief was an active Rennlist member and was selling parts online (eBay and other boards).

themadhatter 02-25-2006, 05:36 PM that's great news, hope that most of the car can be restored if the frame wasn't cut up.

nym3lover 02-25-2006, 08:46 PM i'd wait till he got out of jail and kill him. Or even better pay some inmates to rape him every day
This is a horrible thing to happen, but... when you post your full upgrade information on the car on your website, and then you register that website to your home address so anyone who goes to nsi.com can look it up, well, what do you expect?
Not everyone is your friend. If you own something hot. Wife or a car, whatever. 99.9% of people want your shit, and probably half of those will take it if they get the opportunity. And he just gave them that opportunity, sadly.
