I am considering moving from my '95 M3 to a '91 M5. My '95 has 120xxx and just short of being called showroom condition. Truthfully, I am only considering doing this for two reasons. First, I would like to take some of the equity out of my current '95. Second, I'm attracted to the exclusivity of the powertrain.

So, if condition is equal, will the M5 be significantly less capable than my rock solid '95 M3? Is the E34 M5 any less reliable? Any advice would be appreciated.

If condition is equal you will making an even swap. The 5 ride is a little nicer.

Although I am looking to buy a nice e36 M3 for a DD, I would NEVER give up my e34 M5 for one. The difference is simply unreal.
