View Full Version : McLaren F1 LM Sighting?
rwindleyme02 01-10-2006, 06:21 PM I could have sworn I saw a Papaya Orange McLaren F1 LM driving towards I-85 on Jimmy Carter on my way to work yesterday. Is there one around here? I know Turner Motorsport owns 2 of them but aren't they in MA.
Anyone else have a sighting around these parts?
Looks like this: http://www.quantumsoft.co.uk/files/clipart/jpegs/cars/McLaren_F1_LM_2.jpg

Yeah, he lives out near Lake Oconee. His day consist of taking his son to school and picking him up in a Enzo. He sold a great portion of the company but still makes money off of it supposedly. At least this is all what my customer told me. But, I have indeed seen the entrance to his ranch(or whatever it is).
BimmerDawg 01-11-2006, 10:22 AM Yep, the guy's for real. When I was at Athens BMW we sold him two or three 7-series.

The guy is a dickhead IMO. I know of him because he used to fly out of my airport. When he sold his plane he kicked the pilot to the curb on a Sunday morning with no severance or anything.

Wait....would you pay a guy to sit around and do nothing?
If so, where do I put in my app?
I mean cmon, the guy had a pilot to fly his plane.....no plane, no pilot.
I mean, shit, next you will want me to continue paying the stealership to work on my car after I sold it...:rolleyes

With that much money...you still need to have some respect for other people below you...
keeptheuroalive 01-11-2006, 01:20 PM Thats some pretty nice cars. Where near Oconee is he my friend lives on the lake and I'm goin to visit him real soon and I want to drive by this house.

He hosted the 2003 Microcar National Meet at his ranch. Extraordinary collection of Mircocars. The exotics were hidden from view.
I would agree that you could describe his wealth as expansive, whether he owns the F1 or not.

Gotta be more to the story that that. Firing someone doesn't make a person a dickhead and a severance package isn't always given once someone is out of work.

Dont know many pilots who do get severance packages except for a Delta pilot maybe? I doubt they even get severance packages.
If he sold the plane, what was the guy supposed to do, starting cooking for him?
Side note, Seth do you have any knowledge about determining a LTW by Vin #?
Mike

I used to have a list with VIN #s of car that were known LTWs. Email me the VIN and I will see if I can find the list.

WoW!
AtlzDesiKhiladi 01-12-2006, 09:03 PM WoW!
I saw a Ferrari F50 roar past me today in Downtown Boca....I wish I had my camera on me (it's still in the mail). The thing sounded amazing! He took a turn and gunned it towards me and DAMNNNN! He was a young lookin guy too. HAd to have been late 20's. But then again, thats common here in Boca. I can go 3 blocks and see 5 or 6 Bentley's. I even saw a Ferrari 355 at Publix the other day....I'll take pics, I promise....

If he really did just sell it one day and fire the pilot without any sort of advance notice then that's a dick thing to do no matter how you slice it. If he gave him a few weeks notice then I'd say no severance pay is needed, but if I had to fire a person providing a service to me because they were no longer needed then I'd at least give them some severance pay so that they had a decent chance to find work.
You sound like you don't have many financial responsibilities by your statements...
FL410 01-14-2006, 03:26 PM Can you honestly respect a guy that has enough money to rival the Prince of Monaco but won't pay an employee a severance? Come on.

OK, here is the rest of the story. He hired him and told him they'd also be adding a jet and he'd be running a whole flight department. They even test flew jets on two occasions. Then, out of the blue on a Sunday morning at 9am, he calls and tells him he is unemployed. ZERO advance notice. Jim, the pilot, did nothing wrong. That's just dick. Sorry if you don't agree.

I agree with you...if I was the pilot and had a family to feed, I would be pissed too...

There still has to be more to the story. He wasn't a long time employee at this point from the rest of the story you tell. Just because someone is hired doesn't mean there has to be a severence especially from the story you are telling us. As I said, there has to be more to the story.

Jesus, man, did you get coal in your stocking, Scrooge? He worked for the guy about a year and a half. All during that time he was promised higher pay and an upgrade to jets and a full flight department and then unceremoniously dumped on a Sun. morning with no warning. After Daddy Warbucks sold the company he just up and decided to dump the plane and all the plans for a flight department. This guy didn't even lift a finger for that fortune--his grandfather did and he inherited it. He's worth several hundred million dollars he never worked a day in his life to earn and he can't spare like $10,000 to set his pilot right after lying to him. That's BS.
Note to self: If Seth Thomas ever buys a plane do not submit a resume for the job.

No coal for me for Christmas but that is more of the story that I am talking about. And in the business world a serverence package is only given when it is negotiated or part of the contract. If this wasn't negotiated then it isn't deserved.
From your story though it does sound like the guy was an ass for firing the guy at the last minute. I personally wouldn't act this way in my business practices unless the employee did something that deserved that treatment.
Oh note to self: Check to see if my pilot expects a severence package ;)

After you get finished screwing your pilot out of his severence package, did you find any information about VIN numbers? Did you get my email?
