Folks,

I wanted to get some opinion from some of the DE students/drivers out there. In the past, I have always felt that there wasnt much time from when we (instructors) get the instructor/student pairing list to the when we meet up with the assigned student.

7:30 park, unload and walk over to the meeting
8:00-8:30 instructors meeting
8:30 instructors go out
9AM Run Group A

If I have a Group A student, it makes really hard to just jump cars, introduce and gain momentum. A 20 minute break and then the next student.

I discussed this with Tom Melton (ex Chief INstructor for Peachtree) a while back but before I mention it to the Peachtree chapter (I have a feeling they wouldnt have a problem unless there is some last minute changes when instructors/students back out), just wanted to see what you all felt about this: I prefer calling my students on thursday evening around 8PM. Introduce myself, what am I driving, have they been to RA, do they know where all the flagging stations are (if not, then walk them through), what mods are they running (especially the tires and brakes which allows me to understand the limits) etc.

What say?

Anything that can be done to give everyone more seat time would be better.:cool

Sounds like a great idea.

The one major criticism I've had of most my instructors has been the brief introduction with no real concentration on what I was there to accomplish(drive around slow and have a blast, consistency, smoothness, tracing the friction circle etc.).

I can totally understand that. Thats why, get to know the person over the phone, find out their goals (hey I want to just drive around the track or heck I want to be smooth and quick).

Just wanted to get a feel for this before I contact the PT chapter.

When I first started DE back in 95. My instructor called me and prepped me out pretty good. This was with the Boston Chapter. Secondly they had a mentor who was generally an A group student who you can contact as well.

I still remember my first time out with my instructor :) It was a middle aged lady driving an E500.

I haven't been though the experience myself but it seems like a great idea. Is there any way to request an instructor Ahmad? You'd like to scoot around RA in the little MINI wouldn't you? :)

Kyle, you can request me as an instructor. I had another student of mine (had an Audi S4) request me as an instructor the second time around. This was when Tom Melton was the CI.

You would need to email Tony (Chief Instructor) at dsinstruct@peachtreebmwcca.org cc mail: dschool@peachtreebmwcca.org for the request. Email me and let me know when you get a response. I will be registering myself on the 14th.
