Seriously considering a brake upgrade. Based on the recent C&D seems that Stop Tech is the way to go. Clearly best performance/value option. Anyone using these brakes? How is the performance?

View Full Version : Stop Tech Brake Upgrade MAB Badgerbimmer 09-06-2002, 01:18 PM Seriously considering a brake upgrade. Based on the recent C&D seems that Stop Tech is the way to go. Kevlar 09-06-2002, 01:38 PM Personally, I'd got with a Movit or Brembo kit... never heard any reviews of the StopTech on the new M3. European Car did use StopTech on an E36 M3, but they ended up coming off and being replaced with a Brembo kit. MAB Badgerbimmer 09-06-2002, 06:12 PM Actually StopTechs were better than Brembos in the Car & Driver test. They are $600 less expensive and use a Porsche pad size from early '90s 911s. So pad replacement is less expensive as is rotor replacement. As far as wheel clearance Brembos require 15mm spacers on stock 18s. Which as my car is primarily for the track the wheels will not be changed for the street. Clearance on the SSR Comps for track use is not a problem. Further Brembos are not made to the car. Brembo simply makes a bracket that will fit and throws on a F50 or F40 caliper. StopTech comes up with the caliper that works with the master cylinder and the rear brake and car biasing. Conclusion would appear that StopTech is a better choice. Just looking for someone with real live experience, not conjecture, with the StopTechs. |
